Chapter 10%
It had been months since I started living in Europe. Samuel kept calling and messaging me, asking why I suddenly sold my apartment.
“Juliet! Finally, you answered my call. Where are you?” Samuel asked me from the other line.
I sighed. “You don’t have to know, Samuel.”
He groaned and took a deep breath. “I was shocked when you sold your house. Are you not coming back?”
Rolling my eyes, I replied, “That’s right. I’m not coming back.” After that, I hung up and blocked him. That day when I told him that we were over, he should have realized that I wasn’t joking.
I let out a deep sigh and inhaled a lungful of air. I felt better moving to Europe and starting over again. Everything around me was new so I could create new memories without having to remember the painful past I endured on Samuel’s side.
However, fate seemed to make fun of me when I suddenly encountered Samuel at a business party I attended. He looked tired and even lost some weight. I tried to avoid him but he started calling me in the crowd.
“What do you want?” I asked Samuel after dragging him to the empty balcony. I couldn’t afford to lose face in front of others because he wouldn’t stop calling my name.§
Samuel looked at me with sad eyes. “Juliet, come back to me. Please,” he begged. “I came here as soon as I found out your new address. Juliet, forgive me for everything I did in the past. I took you for granted when all you did was love and treasure me. I regret everything and I’m hoping you’ll give me a chance. Please, let’s start again.“}
Shaking my head, I looked straight at Samuel’s eyes, showing my resolve. “It’s not easy to forget and forgive everything you did, Samuel. My mom died on our wedding day because you chose to break the promise you gave me. I never asked you anything except for that wedding to work. You could have divorced me after a few months and be with Nora whom you loved. But you did what you wanted and I lost my mother,” I paused, pressing my lips.
“Even if you keep apologizing for a hundred or thousand times, my mother will never be coming back to life. I hated you for that, Samuel. I loved you so much to endure the humiliation and pain you gave me but after losing my mother that day, I learned to let go and hate you. So, don’t show up in front of me again. Don’t ask for a second chance because it’s not possible. And don’t expect me to love you again like before,” I continued.
Samuel bowed his head, hiding his tears. “I understand, Juliet. But I’m not going to give up. I will keep pursuing you until you love me back, again.”
I shook my head with a bitter smile. “It’s useless, Samuel. I already found someone who’d truly love and treasure me. I’m going to marry him in two months.”
Samuel was rendered speechless after I told him about my upcoming wedding. Before he could say anything, I left him alone on the balcony.
Vincent was waiting for me in the corner. I walked toward him and held his hand.}
“Is everything alright?” Vincent asked gently.
Nodding, I said, “Yes.“Z
Two months later, the most awaited day of my life came. I was going to marry the man I loved and loved back. I felt like floating along the clouds throughout the ceremony until the priest pronounced us as husband and wife.
I stared at Vincent’s eyes and he was looking back at me with a smile. I thought I would never fall in love again but everything changed when Vincent came creeping into my heart. He was the sweetest man in the world, making me feel special every second.
“Congratulations!“?
We smiled at the guests who came to join us on our happy occasion. While greeting each of them, I saw Samuel by the door. He was in poor condition but he came with expensive gifts for me and Vincent.
“Juliet, congratulations,” Samuel said after placing his gifts next to the other gifts we received. “I regretted letting you go. I still can’t believe you’re with another man now,” he added in a quiet voice.
“It is what it is, Samuel. If you learn to let go of the past, you’ll find the right person fated for you, too,” I said and turned my back to him.
Vincent wrapped his arms around me with a proud smile on his face. I didn’t turn back to see Samuel and kept my eyes forward with Vincent next to me.”
