Chapter 6X
Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to avoid Samuel, I couldn’t. Our company had cooperation with the Wilson Group, so naturally, we also received the invitation.&
In the past. Vincent would be accompanied by another colleague on such social occasions. However, since I took a long break, my colleague had to handle my workload until she overworked herself. So, as soon as I came back to work, she also requested a vacation.
I felt bad about it so when Vincent announced that he needed company, I volunteered. I didn’t want to keep bothering my colleagues after they helped me out with work while I was on break. Besides, whatever problem I had with Samuel shouldn’t affect my work.
I just needed to avoid him so he wouldn’t drag me to whatever scene he planned to make.
To my shock, Samuel was waiting by the entrance when I walked inside the banquet hall. He looked at me with his shining eyes and dashing smile.
“Juliet, I knew you’d come!” Samuel exclaimed.N
I planned to ignore him but he was the one who came to me. I took a step back and looked at him with a blank expression on my face. “Samuel. I came here for work.“N
Samuel didn’t believe it and just laughed. “Oh, come on. We know why you came,” he said and tried to pull me to his side but I dodged him.
Vincent noticed what happened and sensed that I was uncomfortable. “Mr. Wilson, do you know Juliet?”
Samuel nodded almost immediately. “She’s my fiance.”
Vincent raised his eyebrows in surprise.
As for me, I was annoyed. “Samuel, what are you talking about? We already broke up. Stop making up things that don’t make sense at all.”
He called me his fiance but we both knew that he would choose Nora over me no matter what.”
Samuel patted me on the shoulder. “Juliet, I know you just said that because you were mad. I don’t think you’re going to break up with me for real,” he said, confidently.
“Dream on,” I muttered under my breath.
Fortunately, Samuel had to greet other guests. He left when his assistant called him so I could breathe easy again.
Vincent and I were left alone, looking at each other. He must be wondering why he didn’t know about my relationship with Samuel. Everyone in the company knew I had a boyfriend, but they had no idea it was Samuel Wilson, the president of the Wilson Group.
I felt a little embarrassed now that Vincent knew my relationship with Samuel. But thankfully, he wasn’t the type to gossip so I felt relieved when he just patted me on the back and pretended he didn’t hear anything earlier.
“I’ll go talk with some acquaintances. Do you want to come with me?” Vincent asked while looking at the group of people chatting on the other side of the hall.
Shaking my head, I replied, “I’m good. I’ll be waiting here. Take your time.“}
After Vincent left, I treated myself with a glass of champagne. It had been a while since I drank so I enjoyed every sip of it.
“Well, look who’s here,” Nora sneered while raising an eyebrow. “What are you doing here, Juliet?”
“Oh, it’s you. Don’t worry, I came for work, not to squabble with you,” I replied and finished my champagne.
“Yeah, right? Lame excuse.” Nora rolled her eyes while fanning herself with her hand. “Well, whatever. Samuel will choose me over you anyway. He always did and always will,” she added with a grin.§
“Okay. Have fun with him,” I replied, nonchalantly. I was about to go somewhere away from her when she kept following me.
“Did you know? Samuel’s going to announce to the world that he’s marrying me. You must be dying of jealousy, huh?” Nora giggled. In the past, maybe I would.”
Nora didn’t stop and kept boasting. “He’s going to finally marry me. Isn’t that great?“{
“Good luck,” I told her.
Suddenly, Nora blocked my way with a vicious grin. “You can pretend like you don’t care but tonight, I will make you realize that I’m the most important person in Samuel’s life. He’s going to choose me no matter what,” she said before stumbling down before me while coughing severely.
“Ah! Please, don’t hurt me,” Nora cried.”
