Chapter 19 I Killed His Mother and the Love of His Life
Sylvie finally relaxed upon seeing Olive awake. She let out a sigh of relief and sat back down in the chair before picking up an apple and peeling it for her.
“Don’t worry. Your injuries are mostly superficial. But just in case, I still had the doctor do a full check–up on you. That disgusting old man kicked you hard, and 1 was worried your bones were damaged.”
Even now, she shuddered at the memory of olive unconscious and covered in blood.
“And you! How many times have I told you that in our line of work, even if you’re as virtuous as you try to be, people are still going to pin labels on you? What’s the point of holding onto your pride? If Mr. Smart hadn’t shown up yesterday, you’d likely have bem beaten to death by Mr. Lelcaster.”
Olive listened to Sylvie with a smile, but she didn’t respond. She merely obediently took the apple tmeler and started munching on it. But her long–frozen heart wanned slightly, and bec eyes even misted over a liute.
Suddenly, the fact that she had been hospitalized dawned on her, and she started to panic about Solana.
“Sylvie, how long have been in the hospital? Lana…”
Sylvie sighed at her reaction. “Don’t worry. I’ve already called Ruth. She’ll help watch Lana for the next few days. Everything will be fine.”
“Thank you!” Olive answered, her voice quivering
Sylvie stared at the woman lying on the bed, who was trying her hardest to shove her emotions down. But her gently trembling lashes exposed the fear and worry beneath the surface.
Sylvie couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh. Olive was truly resilient to the point that it made her heart ache for her.
From the first day she met olive, she knew that even though the latter had been in prison before, there was still an innate sense of dignity and pride about her that none of them could compare to. Even when Olive had crumbled and Callen apart, she still maintained her principles.
“alive, we’ve known each other for so long, but I’ve never asked about your past, Can I ask you a question now?
Olive paused momentarily, surprised. “Sure. Go ahead,”
“Just what is your connection to Trevor Horton, the head of the Tonsville Hortons?” Sylvie asked
Olive had remained poised even after what Percy did to her last time, but when faced with Trevor, their intense confrontation suggested that they weren’t
“Do you not feel like ing about it? or do you not trust me?” Sylvie asked when she saw Olive’s expression stiften.
“Forget it if you don’t want to talk about it. No pressure,” she continued, laughing it off.
“He’s my ex–husband, “Olive answered flatly
Sylvie was so shocked by this that she dropped the apple she had been eating, and her eyes bulged wide with surprise. She had always Imown that Olive’s background was complicated, but never had she imagined it to be such a bombshell. The bead of the Toesville Hortons was her ex–husband?
That meant that Olive didn’t come from an ordinary family, which explained why she carried herself with such pride.
Sylvie couldn’t help but suspect that Louis, the wily fox, had already looked into live’s background when he first hired her. “Why did you get divorced?”
Olive froze, bet gaze delfting to the dazzling sunlight shining outside. But even that wasn’t enough to chase away the shadows engulfing her heart–it would never bermouth.
She replied, “Because I dlled his mother and the love of his life.
She sat there staring at Olive, stunned for a long while. The way olive had said it–so calm and light–it was as if she were recounting someone elsa’s story
How could someone as detached and unfeeling as her all anyone? How was that even possible?
Sylvie teached out and gently patted Olive’s shoulder, saying, “It wasn’t you, was it?”
No one had ever believed olive. Not even her parents or the man slat had grown up with. No one!
