He coldly spoke to the maid, “Madam had a miscarriage. Why didn’t you tell me?“>
The maid widened her eyes, hesitated for a moment, then replied, “Mr. Charleston, I came here today to resign. But since you asked about Madam’s miscarriage, I won’t hide it.”
“When you and Miss Victoria left, Madam fell down the stairs. We called you, but you didn’t answer. Madam was discouraged, so she asked me to hide it from you. She didn’t want you to know.”
“She said there was no need to tell you because you wouldn’t care about her anyway. She thought you might pretend to love her because of the child and that would only upset people … ““Enough!“}
Damien couldn’t listen anymore. He refused to believe the maid’s one–sided account. He approved her resignation and rushed to the hospital to verify.
In the corridor of the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department, Damien tightly clutched the ultrasound report. In a hoarse voice, he asked, “Are you sure this test result is accurate?”
The doctor pushed his glasses up and replied, “Mr. Charleston, the system records show that Miss Heartford did have an examination here and also had a uterine curettage operation.”
He paused, then added, “She came alone at the time and we specifically asked her family members … ”
Damien staggered back a step.
Amelia’s words echoed in his mind.§
“When we have a child, let him learn the piano … “§
But he had only responded absentmindedly, his thoughts already on Victoria, who had just divorced. Damien stumbled out of the hospital and went straight to the law firm.§
When he opened the door, Elizabeth was sorting through some documents. When she looked up and saw him, a flash of understanding passed through her eyes.
“Did you teach her?” Damien asked angrily as he slammed the divorce agreement on the table, his voice trembling with feelings he never had before.
“She never uses such tricks!“}
Elizabeth was completely enraged by his attitude. She set the documents aside and looked at Damien coldly. “I help Amelia get a divorce. What does it have to do with you?“}
She looked him up and down deliberately and asked in a mocking tone, “Ah… are you her husband?“}
When Elizabeth saw that Damien froze in place, she calmly continued, “As a lawyer, I’m only responsible for helping my client complete the divorce procedures. As for how she got your signature … ”
She then shrugged her head as she said, “That’s between you two.”

After all, Elizabeth had been Amelia’s friend for years. But she had only recently learned who Amelia’s husband was. It turned out to be Damien Charleston. The very same Damien she had secretly loved for years.
The moment Elizabeth found out, something in her turned cold. Now, facing him, her expression grew even sharper. With a sneer, she pulled open a drawer and placed a document on the table in front of Damien.
‘Mr. Charleston, this is the emergency record from the hospital. This document is the one documenting Amelia’s miscarriage. Do you remember where you were that day?“”
Elizabeth didn’t even walt for him to answer. Instead, she pulled out a stack of glossy photographs and tossed them next to the document.”
“There you are. At the amusement park. With Victoria.“}
The photos showed Victoria happily posing with a stuffed animal, while Damien stood next to her. There was a soft glance in his eyes. In fact, it was almost affectionate.
Elizabeth’s voice turned cold as ice as she continued, “When Amelia fell down the stairs, she called you seventeen times.”
She paused, letting the words sink in.
“You didn’t answer a single one.“}
Damien fumbled for his phone, swiping through his call log. There they were. Seventeen missed calls from Amelia.N Each one now felt like a blade, slicing deeper into his chest.
