His face drained of color. “Why? I’ve prepared for so long…“)
“Ambrose,” I met his eyes without flinching, “you’ve always done things your way. Kaden was right. You were cold when I needed you most. Now that someone else stands beside me, you suddenly want to win me back. You never once asked what I wanted.”}
He stumbled back like I’d struck him with full force. Then he turned and left, defeated, hollow, and without a word.
A few days passed. Then, a call came from an unknown number.
On the other end, a voice breathed heavily, rough and broken, as if enduring some deep pain.
“Jasmine, I’m hurt. Can you come to see me…?”
“I just want to see you…”
I hung up without hesitation.

So I tiptoed up, wrapped my arms around his neck, and whispered against his ear, “Did you forget? The only one I like now is you.“} His arms wrapped around me, tightening with such force it almost stole my breath.
On the day Kaden and I got married, Ambrose showed up once more.}
But this time, there was no desperation, no madness in his eyes. He simply stood at a distance, watching in silence as we exchanged our rings.
The paragliding accident had damaged his vocal cords. He could no longer speak.}
And right then, as the vows were spoken and the rings slipped onto our fingers, all my memories came flooding back: the coldness in his eyes, the way he dismissed my love, the moments I begged for warmth only to be met with silence.}
Strangely, my heart no longer ached.}
Sunlight poured over Kaden’s hands, and I held our rings, glinting like promises cast in gold.
And I knew, this time, I had truly found happiness.
