“And it’s fine if you’re not there right now because of everything that had happened, but I thought we could unwind in the Maldives. I bought us tickets,” David said

“You should take it, Lena. David is a good one,” Mr. Farleigh said, giving me a wink.
I just chuckled.
“It might interest you to know that David and I became friends because I look exactly like you. He has always loved you, Lena,” Asher added.
It was funny how they both thought I needed convincing.
“So, do you wanna come with me? Let’s see how it goes between us,” David said, letting out a shaky breath.
“I would love to!” I giggled as I jumped in
his arms.
Mr. Farleigh just sat, watching us with a big smile.
“Too bad, David. I considered you my son,” Mr. Farleigh teased.
“I can be your son in law. We will still be family!” David replied and we all burst out laughing.

As laughter filled the room, I looked around at Asher, at Mr. Farleigh, and at David. At the people who had become my real family.
For the first time in my life, I wasn’t just surviving.
