Chapter 12
“Where’s Miranda?” Magnus asked, still frowning.
“I woke up early today.” Sabrina explained as she stirred her spoon. “She was swamped with chores, so I told her to go take care of other things.”
“Why? Were you looking for her?” she asked as she pushed the seafood chowder closer to Magnus with a gentle smile. “Go ahead and try it while it’s still hot. It won’t taste as good once it cools.”
But Magnus frowned even deeper as the bowl slid closer. He didn’t like the taste of seafood. Sabrina s
If it were Chelsea… she would’ve never made that kind of mistake.
At that instant, the thought hit him hard. Why was he thinking about Chelsea again?:
should’ve known that
“Magnus?” Sabrina asked softly, watching him stare at the seafood chowder blankly. “What’s wrong? Don’t like it?”
Just as he was about to speak, the front door opened and Miranda returned from outside.
“Oh, Miss Knowles, thank you so much! If you hadn’t helped in the kitchen today–“%
But when she saw the bowl of seafood chowder in front of Magnus, her face instantly changed. “Sir, I’m so sorry. I forgot to tell Miss Knowles that you don’t like seafood“}
She rushed over, picked up the bowl, and headed straight into the kitchen to dump it out. But before she left, she muttered under her breath, just loud enough for Sabrina to hear.!!
“That’s strange. Miss Knowles used to know that.”
Sabrina froze in her seat, a flash of embarrassment washing over her face.!!
“Magnus, …”
“It’s fine,” he said with a faint smile, sensing her discomfort. “You’ve been gone for three years. It makes sense you don’t remember everything.
He casually pulled a napkin from the table to wipe his hands and said, “I’m going to change clothes. Why don’t you come with me to the company later? You just got back to the country. If you want to be my assistant, you’ll need to get familiar with how the company works.“”
“Okay!” she said sweetly, her voice soft and eager. That familiar tone made Magnus’s heart skip for just a second before he turned and headed upstairs.
But a moment later, his voice echoed from the staircase.
“Babe, do you know where my black tie with the blue stripes is-”
He stopped mid–sentence. Even he was stunned by his own words.
Sabrina stood there confused, not understanding why he suddenly went quiet.
Magnus didn’t say anything. He turned back toward the bedroom, face unreadable.
How could he forget? Chelsea wasn’t there anymore.
He stood in front of the open closet, looking at the neatly arranged ties. But none of them were the one he wanted.
With a frustrated sigh, he yanked one at random and threw it around his neck’s
Later at the office, Magnus introduced Sabrina to the departments and staff one by one. She listened carefully and took notes, eager to learn
But when Magnus opened the drawer of his office desk, he froze.!!
In the back corner was a bpx of nearly expired stomach medication.
A dull ache formed in his chest.
He remembered the early days of their marriage.
Back then, the company was barely surviving, and he had endless dinners and meetings. His chronic gastritis flared up badly during that time.E
Chelsea had gone to great lengths to help him manage his stomach condition. She’d made him porridge every morning, prepared soups for him after late nights of work, and always made sure he kept a bottle of stomach medication in his office in case she wasn’t around & As the company grew and things settled down, he had fewer late nights and fewer flare–ups. So, the medicine had been forgotten, left to gather dust.K
Now, seeing that bottle again.. all he could think about was her
His chest tightened with a wave of irritation–frustration he couldn’t quite explain.it
As such, he pulled out the bottle and tossed it into the trash.!
Then, without another word, he called someone else to take over showing Sabrina around, while he stayed behind, staring blankly at the trash can.
That afternoon, he brought her to a meeting with one of their business partners.”
But the moment Sabrina saw who it was, she was completely caught off guard. It was Calvert Hansen.
