Chapter 114
Katie stayed by Cameron’s side while he recovered in the hospital. She brought him meals, fluffed his pillows, even helped him walk when his legs felt unsteady.
And Cameron was happy. Or, at least, he told himself he was.
For years, he had dreamed of being by Katie’s side like this. Of her caring for him, depending on him.
But no matter how hard he tried to focus on her smile, her laughter, her touch- Lily’s face would still creep into his mind.
He would close his eyes to rest, only to see Lily’s shy smile. He would reach for water, only to remember how Lily would silently refill his glass without being asked.
The ache in his chest never fully left.
Still, he pushed the thoughts away.M
This was the life he chose. Katie was the future he had planned for
Finally, after days of recovery, Cameron was discharged from the hospital, Nathan, his personal butler, met him at the car, bowing respectfully.
“Young Master,” Nathan said. “Everything is prepared at the beachside villa as you instructed. The staff is ready. The proposal setting is complete.”N
Cameron nodded, excitement stirring in his chest.
“Good,” he said. “Make sure Katie gets the invitation. She needs to come tomorrow.“}
“Understood,” Nathan said.
Cameron personally called Katie to invite her. When she picked up, she sounded sweet and cheerful.
“Of course, I’ll come!” Katie said. “I’ll dress up nicely too. I can’t wait!”
Cameron’s chest tightened with nervous happiness. He smiled to himself after ending the call, picturing the moment he would finally reveal everything to her–the truth about who he really was, the future he wanted to offer her.
For the first time in a long time, he felt like everything was finally falling into place.
The next day, Cameron waited at the beachside villa. The sun was beginning to set, painting the ocean in shades of gold and crimson./
The table was set. The candles were lit. The ring–hidden carefully in his jacket pocket–was ready.
The only thing missing was Katie. Minutes turned into hours.
Cameron’s smile faded into a frown. He tried calling her.
No answer.
He called again. Still nothing.00
He stared down at his phone, confusion knotting his gut.
Where was she?N
Meanwhile, across the city, Katie was laughing with her friends at a crowded coffee shop. Her phone buzzed and buzzed on the table beside her, but she didn’t even glance at it.
One of her friends, sipping on a latte, nudged her.
“Aren’t you going to answer that? Might be important.“W
Katie rolled her eyes drammatically.
“It’s just that nonsense chef,” she said, flipping her hair over her shoulder. “Probably wants me to show up at some stupid place.“} Her friends giggled.”
“But didn’t you say you liked him?” one asked. “What if he’s planning something special?”
Katie smirked, swirling her straw lazily in her drink.
“Liked him?” she repeated mockingly. “I never liked him for real. I just wanted to take everything from Lily. Cameron was just another one of her toys I could stea!.”
She laughed cruelly.}}
“And now, with Mister Brown favoring me, why would I waste my time on a lowly chef? Even if he confessed, what’s the point? I’d just reject him.”
Her friends gasped in mock horror before bursting into laughter.
Katie leaned in closer, her voice dropping into a cruel whisper.
“Besides,” she said, “it’s not like Lily ever deserved anything anyway. She was stupid. She didn’t even know I was the reason her mother lost her baby.“W
The table went silent. Katie smiled wickedly.
“Yeah,” she continued. “I slipped abortion pills into Lily’s mom’s drink. She miscarried because of me. And that whole depression story? Another lie. I crushed up pills and dumped them into her medicine. Overdosed her perfectly.”
She giggled, covering her mouth like it was some juicy secret instead of a monstrous confession.
“And now? Lily’s gone. Her mother’s gone. And everything is mine.”
Katie leaned back in her chair, basking in her own cruelty, while her friends exchanged uneasy looks.
None of them noticed the figure standing near the coffee shop’s entrance, frozen in place.
Cameron. He had come looking for her. Had driven across the city desperate to understand why she hadn’t shown up.
And now… He stood there, hearing every single word.”
The laughter. The confessions. The horrifying truth.”
Something inside him cracked so violently it left him breathless. The ring in his pocket felt heavier than stone.}
He stared at Katie–beautiful, smiling, cruel–and for the first time, he saw her clearly. Not the girl he thought he loved.
Not the innocent, sweet dream he had chased for years. But a monster.
A monster who had destroyed lives–and laughed about it.”
A monster he had almost given everything to.}
And worst of all–he realized, in that brutal, shattering moment–he had lost the only person who had truly loved him while he was too blind to see it.
