Chapter 128
The moment I heard Katie’s sickening confession, I didn’t waste another second. I turned and ran–pushing through the streets like a man possessed–racing back to the estate.
By the time I arrived, my chest was heaving, my hands trembling with rage and disbelief. Without even catching my breath, I pulled out my phone and called Nathan.
“Get here now,” I barked. “I need you to investigate something immediately.“}
Nathan answered almost instantly. “Yes, Young Master. What are your orders?“}
“I want a full investigation on Lily’s mother,” I said, pacing the grand foyer. “Find her autopsy report. Get everything. And I want the security footage from the night of my accident at the bar.“}
There was a slight pause.”
“Both?” Nathan asked cautiously.
“Both,” I snapped. “I want to know the truth. I want proof of who saved me that night. And do it fast.“}
I hung up, my heart pounding violently in my chest. Katie’s words replayed again and again in my mind like a poison I couldn’t scrub out.
Abortion pills… overdose… stole everything from Lily… She thought it was depression–but it wasn’t.”
How could I have not seen it? How could I have been so blind?}
I collapsed into one of the armchairs, my mind spinning. The girl I thought was pure had been the devil all along. And the girl I had cast aside–the one I ignored, hurt, betrayed–She had been the one who was real.
The one who loved me quietly. The one who saved me without asking for anything in return.}
My phone rang suddenly. It was my father.
Reluctantly, I answered.}
“Cameron,” my father’s voice wheezed on the other end, tired and strained. “Where is the girl you were supposed to introduce to me? You know I don’t have much time left. I need you to settle down. I need you to take a bride now.”}
I closed my eyes, guilt tightening like a noose around my throat.
“Father… something happened,” I said quietly. “I’m clarifying everything.“}}
A long pause crackled through the line.
“I’m coming back,” I continued. “But not with an impostor. I will not marry a liar.“}
My father sighed heavily. “You always choose the difficult path, boy… but if that’s your choice, I’ll wait.”
The call ended. I gripped the phone tightly, my knuckles turning white.
No matter what, I couldn’t stay attached to Katie any longer. She wasn’t who I thought she was. She never was.}
Later that night, Katie tried calling me. Over. And over.}
I let the calls ring out into silence. I didn’t have the heart to hear another lie from her lips. Not until I had the full truth.
It was almost midnight when Nathan returned, holding a thick file in his hands and a USB drive.
“Here, Young Master,” he said, handing them over solemnly. “Everything you asked for.“}
I tore the file open first. Autopsy report. Medical history.
My eyes scanned the pages quickly–and my stomach twisted in horror. Lily’s mother hadn’t died from natural depression or heartbreak.}
The toxicology report showed traces of abortion–inducing drugs and an overdose of sleeping medication. Both substances had been slipped into her system by someone close. Someone she trusted.
My hands shook as I flipped to the next report–Confirming that there were signs of foul play, but the case had been ruled as depression and closed quietly due to the family’s influence.}
And then came the footage. I jammed the USB into my laptop with trembling hands.
The grainy security footage flickered on the screen.}
There I was–Staggering out of the bar, drunk out of my mind. Stumbling into the street.
A car barreling toward me. And then, a small figure rushed forward.”
Not Katie.
Lily. Lily grabbed me around the waist and yanked me backward, throwing herself between me and danger without hesitation.}
I stared at the screen, my throat tightening painfully.
It was her. It had always been her.”
All those years ago- It was Lily who saved me. It was Lily who risked everything for me.
Not Katie. Never Katie.
Tears blurred my vision, rage and guilt battling inside me until I thought I might be sick.}
What had I done? The woman I had loved all along… The woman I had betrayed and thrown away…
It was Lily. And now she was gone. Out of my reach.
I stood up so fast the chair toppled behind me. I grabbed my phone and dialed Nathan again.”
Find her,” I said hoarsely. “Find Lily. Right now.“}
Nathan hesitated.

Nathan hesitated.
“You want me to find… Miss Lily?”
“Yes,” I snapped. “I don’t care how long it takes. I don’t care what it costs. I need to find her.“>
