Charles‘ expression didn’t change. He just looked at Anette coldly.”
“Annette, you said you had severe morning sickness and that it was Alex and Joanne’s blood that brought bad luck to you. The Catholic priest I found said that only by giving Alex a blood transfusion could you save your life. Now Alex is gone. Shouldn’t you explain this to me?”
“Who was that Catholic priest? What kind of blood did he give Alex that night?”
Annette’s face turned completely pale as her expression became flustered instantly.
She forced herself to look at him and try to explain, “Charles, you misunderstood. The blood that was replaced was still Alex’s own blood. After it was drawn, the Catholic priest performed a ritual to suppress the bad luck in the blood. What I said is true, please believe me!“>
“Alex was such a young child. I loved your son as if he were my own. How could I harm him?”
After hearing what happened, my mother–in–law finally understood why I had to leave. She knew that I didn’t have Charles‘ love. Alex was my life.
Now, that child was killed by Annette. I could never return to the Orville Family again. The last bit of hope in her heart was shattered. This realization seemed to age her ten years in an instant.
She sent the location of the garden where the memorial was held to Charles again.
Then, she fell onto the bed, exhausted.
“I’m already old and can’t take care of things anymore. The future of the Orville Family will be yours. If you can do better, if the curse comes true, there’s nothing more I can do. I’ve tried my best to find Joanne.”}
“Let fate handle the future. I accept whatever comes.“}
Annette wanted to keep explaining. However, Charles didn’t give her a chance. He ordered the bodyguards at home to keep an eye on things and turned around, leaving the mansion without looking back.”
There were some things Charles had to see with his own eyes before he could believe them.”
Alex was already five years old, but Charles had missed too much of his growth. He promised that when Alex grew up, he would hand over the entire Orville Family to this child. Not to mention, he also promised that the heir of the Orville Family would only be Alex.
Annette’s child came strangely. But it was still a good thing for him. So, he didn’t want to dig too deep into it.”
When Annette said that Alex was carrying evil spirits that would harm her, Charles chose to believe it without hesitation. He thought it was just a simple blood transfusion to exorcise the evil spirits. It wasn’t supposed to harm Alex’s life.
To be sure, Charles also called the doctor to confirm. He got the same answer. So, he still didn’t want to believe that Alex was really gone. Charles then rushed to the hospital and showed the death certificate, asking everyone he met, desperately. All the medical staff said there was no suspicion of falsification in the report. The corresponding information for the deceased was also found in the system.
The time of death matched exactly the day he arranged for someone to give Alex a blood transfusion. Looking at the date on the screen, Charles‘ thoughts drifted and he fell into the lane of memories. Where was he at that time?”
Charles had been with Annette, watching fireworks on the yacht, celebrating the anniversary of their meeting. He opened bottle after bottle of champagne. There were only the two of them on the yacht.
To make the date easier, he hadn’t brought his cell phone. He didn’t want to be disturbed by anyone. He had rolled around with Annette after getting drunk. He then held Annette’s hand while they cut the cake together.
At that time, his wife, I, was in the mansion as I was being held back by bodyguards while I watched Alex undergo the blood transfusion by the Catholic priest.”
Thinking of this, Charles suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself twice in the face. His nose became sore as he choked, holding on to the last bit of hope. He asked the doctor again.
