Chapter 29
Jeremy paused for a moment before making an enigmatic remark. “Donors aren’t so easy. to come by.”
Nadine clearly hadn’t expected this response. She panicked for a moment before hurriedly replying, “Yes, donors are really hard to find. I just have to wait.”
After a slight pause, she asked cautiously, “Jeremy, you’re not mad at me, are you?”
“Of course not,” Jeremy replied.
“Can I come have lunch with you today?” Nadine asked.
“I’m busy today. We’ll do it another time,” Jeremy replied, rejecting her.
“Okay, then I won’t bother you anymore. Take care,” Nadine said thoughtfully before hanging up.
“Mr. Hansen, what I just reported to you is all true. The lead surgeon for the transplant. isn’t sick. He’s likely afraid of the repercussions and how it might damage his career. When our people pressed him, he admitted the truth and refused to proceed with the surgery for Ms. Slinger,” Kenneth said.
Jeremy’s expression darkened. “Where did the woman who sold the uterus go? Find her.”
“Yes, Mr. Hansen.”
“Wait.”
Kenneth had just turned to leave when Jeremy stopped him.
He paused and turned back. Then, he heard Jeremy say, “Never mind. Leave it. You can go now.”
Jeremy had already guessed where the woman who sold the uterus might be she was surely with Joanna.
“How clever of her,” Jeremy thought with a sneer.
Not only had she caused Nadine to lose her child and uterus, but now she was even trying to block Nadine’s attempt to undergo a uterus transplant.
Although Kenneth didn’t understand why Jeremy’s mood had shifted so suddenly, he didn’t ask questions. He nodded and exited the room respectfully.
As soon as Kenneth left, Jeremy called Joanna. The phone rang five times before she answered.
Without waiting for her to speak, he started berating her furiously. “Joanna, you’re very cunning indeed. Isn’t it enough that you almost cost Didi her life? She’s just trying to be a

complete woman again. Yet, you’re doing all you can to stop her. How can you be so vicious?”
On the other end, Joanna had just come out of the bathroom after dealing with severe morning sickness. She still felt weak and disoriented from the nausea.
Jeremy’s sudden accusations left her momentarily stunned. When she processed his words, she couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
Her earlier vomiting had been so intense that tears had streamed down her face, leaving a faint redness at the comers of her eyes. Whether It was the lingering nausea or some other emotion, her eyes began to glisten with unshed tears.
“Buying and selling organs is illegal!” she said, enunciating every word clearly.
“Heh!” Jeremy sneered. “It’s a willing transaction between the buyer and the seller–how is that illegal? What about when you signed an agreement to sell yourself to me for three years in exchange for 300 million dollars? Wasn’t that illegal too?”
“No, that wasn’t illegal.” Joanna closed her eyes briefly. “That was just me being pathetic!”
“Exactly. You’re pathetic, Joanna. I’ve never met a woman more pathetic or cruel than you. ‘Jeremy’s voice dripped with venom as the vein on his temple throbbed. “From now on, if you dare interfere in anything between Didi and me again, I won’t spare you.‘
With that, he abruptly ended the call.
Joanna stared at her phone. As she listened to the beeping tone, tears slid down her cheeks.
At that moment, a mix of fury and resentment that she had never felt before surged in her heart. Just because she loved Jeremy, he used her love as a weapon to humiliate and trample all over her.
Didn’t he realize she was only human? Did he think that she couldn’t feel pain?
“What’s wrong, Joanna?” Elliot asked worriedly. He had noticed her distress the moment
he entered.
With eyes red from crying, Joanna turned to Elliot. “Let the news about Joy being with me slip to Nadine. She’ll come and find me.”
