Chapter 7N

My son and I had already flown back home to Bethel.
The very next day, I got two transfers to my bank account. 100,800 and 400,000 dollars–both from Wiley.
I didn’t return it; I took all of it without hesitation.
Soon, I enrolled Beau in the best school in the city and rented a place nearby to make drop–offs and pickups easier.N
Without Wiley’s gloom, his mood swings, or his silent treatment, life became so much lighter.
Even Beau started smiling more. Soon, he even made a bunch of friends.
Just when I thought our peaceful life could go on like this forever… Wiley showed up.
That afternoon, like always, I cooked dinner and went to pick up Beau.
But that same afternoon, at the school gate, I couldn’t find my boy’s familiar little figure.
A familiar panic surged through me, and I called his teacher.
“Oh, Beau had already left with a man.””
A flood of terrible thoughts rushed through my mind, and I was about to call 911.0
But just then, I heard a small voice behind me.
“Mom!”
I turned around–and there my son was, running up to me, out of breath.
And right behind him… was my soon–to–be ex–husband.§
Beau quickly hid behind me, glaring at his father with pure hostility.
“Mom, he keeps following me!”
After being abandoned once, Beau seemed to have no more love left for his father–only resentment. Clearly, he hadn’t expected Wiley to track him down at school.
My boy had even tried to lose his father in the crowd, but Wiley stuck to him like gum on a shoe.§
Instinctively, I stepped in front of my son, protectively.§
A red flag went up in my head.{
‘Is this bastard here to fight for custody?‘
“You aiready have Rowan,” I snapped. “Don’t you dare come again trying to take away my son too, Wiley. You never even loved him!”
