His voice cracked, desperate, as he shoved the rescue workers aside and gripped my shoulders, shaking me with alarming force.
“Heather, wake up! Where is our baby?”
Lizzie, now wrapped in Trent’s coat, staggered over, her face flushed as she coughed violently, struggling to catch her breath.
“President Curran, I think I inhaled water… into my lungs,” she gasped.

To her surprise, Trent didn’t hesitate to push her hand away, his voice sharp with irritation.
“There are plenty of medical staff here. Why are you asking me? I’m not a doctor!”
Lizzie’s hand froze, her expression frozen in disbelief as if she couldn’t quite comprehend what had just happened.
I could barely keep my eyelids open, my body feeling heavy, my thoughts slipping further
away.
Before I knew it, the paramedics were lifting me with urgency, their hands firm as they
carried me into the waiting ambulance.
The sharp smell of disinfectant stung my nostrils as I slowly regained consciousness.
I blinked, my vision slowly clearing, and realized I was lying in a sterile hospital bed.
A nurse, finishing her check–up, gave me a quick nod and pointed toward the door before leaving without a word.
“You were unconscious for a whole day,” she said before she left, “Your husband stayed here the entire time, never once leaving your side.”
The door creaked open, and there stood Trent.
The once–proud man, always so composed, now looked completely worn out, his eyes bloodshot, his face drawn.
He reached for my hand, his grip shaking slightly as he spoke, his voice thick with emotion.
