THIRD PERSON’S POV
Ethan stood frozen in the airport parking lot, his heart racing as panic surged through him.
Dropping his bag, he fought his way through the crowd of frantic passengers.
Ethan’s voice trembled as he shouted his wife’s name, “Claire!”
He begged the airport staff to check the passenger list, each time more desperate for a
different answer,
But each time, the response was the same: Claire Watson Caeter had boarded the flight.
The confirmation came again, and it hit him like a physical blow. Ethan collapsed to the round, the weight of the news overwhelming him. His world seemed to crumble as he knelt there, struggling to breathe.
At an altitude of tens of thousands of feet, no one could have survived that kind of
explosion.
A staff member approached him, offering a gentle, “Our deepest condolences, Sir. “I know
this is difficult, but we are doing everything we can to assist you through this process…”
Ethan’s eyes barely focused on her. He blinked as if trying to clear his head. He was still kneeling on the cold floor, the backpack clutched tightly in his hands. On New Year’s Eve, when families were reuniting and homes were filled with warmth, Ethan lost his wife forever.
Or so he thought…
While Ethan was grieving at the airport, Claire was on a private jet, surrounded by the cryogenic research team heading toward the freezing experiment. The hum of the engines was
the only sound.
When they landed, Dr. Alex Reed escorted her to the lab.
“Mrs. Carter,” he began, his voice measured, “we’ve had successful cases in the past, but those freezing periods were relatively short.”
He paused, his eyes studying her carefully. “As a pregnant woman undergoing a five–year freezing period, we can’t guarantee the survival of both you and the baby during the thawing
process.”
Claire placed a hand gently on her belly, feeling the soft, fluttering movements of life ins her. The small reassuring sensation grounded her. She looked up at Alex, her expression
unwavering.
“I understand,” she said firmly.

If the experiment failed, it would mean that she had kept her word–sacrificing herself for the promise she had made. But if it succeeded, she would have a second chance at life, a new life,
with her baby.

Before the experiment started, I turned to Dr. Reed. “Doc, before we get going, I’d like to see
the Northern Lights.”
The vast, white expanse around us was breathtaking, but the Northern Lights were the only thing breaking through the endless snow and ice. They shimmered in colors that felt almost unreal, and for a moment, the harsh surroundings seemed to soften.
I’d always dreamed of seeing the aurora with Ethan before we got married. I’d heard that
couples who stood beneath the Northern Lights would be together forever. I used to imagine us in that magical moment, hand in hand, watching the sky light up in waves of green and purple.
But Ethan, as always, had been too busy with his business. The trip was postponed time and time again until it became a dream that never quite came true.
Now, here I was, standing on frozen ground with a different future ahead of me, my heart tangled with a mix of loss and hope. I knew it wasn’t the same, but in that moment, the lights still felt like a promise–one I couldn’t ignore.
Now, it was just me and my baby here to witness the lights.
And that was fine.
Some people–and some love–were better left behind, frozen in the past.
I gazed at the shimmering colors dancing across the sky and whispered to myself, “I hope
I’ll be lucky enough to wake up to a new future.”
After signing the consent forms, I lay down on the operating table. The room was sterile and
cold, the hum of machinery filling the silence.
As I waited, I felt a pang of nervousness, but I calmed myself with a hand on my belly.

Through the haze, I heard Dr. Reed’s voice, soft but resolute, as he sealed me into the liquid nitrogen tank.

“Good luck to you and your baby,” he murmured.
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Meanwhile, back at the airport, Ethan was trapped in a state of denial. He refused to accept the reality of what had happened.
For three days, he paced the terminals, desperate to find any shred of evidence that Claire was still alive. He asked everyone–airport staff, security–if there was any way to verify that she hadn’t been on that flight.
The security records confirmed it: she had checked in and boarded the plane. But Ethan
wouldn’t believe it. Deep down. he couldn’t. He had always thought, maybe even unconsciously.

Eventually, the wreckage from the crash was recovered, and the belongings of the passengers were sorted and returned to their families. When the airline handed Ethan his wife’s backpack, his hands shook as he unzipped it.
The first thing to fall out was a ring–his wedding ring. Ethan’s breath hitched. It was
identical to the one he still wore.
He clutched it so tightly that his nails dug into his palm, leaving angry red marks, but he didn’t seem to notice–or care. The pain in his hand was nothing compared to the numbness spreading through his chest.
After a few shaky breaths, he continued to rummage through the bag, his fingers trembling.
Inside, he found her passport, her ID, and something else that made his blood run cold.
It was a divorce agreement, signed and prepared long ago.
Beneath it, there was a stack of photos. Ethan’s stomach twisted as he flipped through them. They showed everything–from the day he’d brought Madeline into his car to the moment they’d danced together at the company gala.
Every lie. Every betrayal. All of it, captured in vivid detail.
He hadn’t realized she knew. He hadn’t realized she’d been watching him all along. Claire had given him every chance to confess, but he had never taken the bait. He hadn’t even thought
he needed to.
Ethan had been so confident, so sure of himself. He believed he could keep everything hidden. And even if she found out, he thought she wouldn’t have the courage to leave.
Desperately, he flipped through the divorce papers, searching for a note, a message, or anything from her. But there was nothing.
Then, at the very end of the stack, he found it: a pregnancy report, dated just a month earlier.
[Name: Claire Watson Carter]
[Pregnancy: Four weeks]
It was the final blow.
Ethan crumpled to the floor in the middle of the airport, clutching the ring and the papers to
his chest, as if they could somehow bring her back.
On New Year’s Day, when families were celebrating and homes were filled with joy, Ethan was left with nothing. No wife, no future, just the bitter sting of the consequences of his cho

CLAIRE’S POV
A piercing light shone on my eyelids, dragging me back to consciousness.
I opened my eyes slowly, my vision swimming as I took in the sterile room around me.
Cheers erupted. Scientists from all over, dressed in white lab coats, were hugging each other their voices filled with awe and excitement.

“This is a miracle!” another shouted.
Their words barely registered. I blinked sluggishly, my body heavy, and soon my eyes drifted
shut again.
When I opened them again, it was quiet. Dr. Alex Reed stood by my side, his face lit with
relief.
“Mrs. Carter,” he said gently, “it’s good to see you awake.”
I tried to move my fingers, managing a slight twitch. My throat felt dry and raw, but I
managed to croak out, “What… what’s the date?”
He gave me an encouraging nod. “It’s been five years,” he said softly.
“You’re the first pregnant woman in the history of this experiment to be successfully revived after freezing.”
