Everything (1)
***Third Person POV***
Max sat on the edge of the bed, staring blankly at the divorce papers in his hands. His mind raced, but every thought hit a dead end. Cassie was gone, and he had no idea where to start looking for her.
His first instinct was to call someone, anyone Cassie knew or was close to but as he reached for his phone, he froze in thought. Who could he call? Her friends?
But… who were her friends?
He suddenly realized something. He didn’t know her friends!
He had never taken the time to ask. Sure, they had a few mutual acquaintances from parties and gatherings, but none of them were close enough to Cassie to know where she might have gone. And the friends she had been close to before their marriage?

They had drifted away, one by one, until it was just the two of them. She had lost contacts with them.
Max gritted his teeth in frustration. Cassie worked remotely he on my knew that much. But what did she do exactly? Where did she work? He had no idea. Whenever she had talked about her day, he had nodded along absently, never bothering to ask questions or show interest.
His fist slammed into the wall beside him. “Damn it!” he hissed, his voice echoing in the empty room.
“This is all my fault,” He stood and paced the floor, his breathing ragged as he
scratched his hair.
Memories of their conversations went through his mind as he tried to recollect anything from his memories with her.
He could remember Cassie laughing as she told him about her latest project, her eyes lighting up as she described her colleagues,

her frustrations, her triumphs. And him? He had brushed it all aside, too focused on his own life, his own problems. Now it was difficult remembering anything!
Max stopped, his chest heaving. He banged his head lightly against the wall, the dull
thud sounded in the silence. How could he
have been so blind? So indifferent? He
banged his head on the wall harder.
He realized now that he had really fucked up! He had built a wall between their lives, insisting on separating work from personal matters, but in doing so, he had shut her out entirely. And now, when it mattered most, he couldn’t even begin to find her.
Max sank to the floor, his head in his
hands. The consequences of his choices. bore down on him, crushing and
relentless. For the first time in years, he felt truly helpless.
Max sat motionless, staring at the divorce papers in his trembling hands. His eyes lingered on the reason Cassie had written:

“Because he cheated.”
His heart dropped. She knew? She had known all along?
He was shocked.
Then he noticed beside the papers, he noticed a small slip of paper tucked neatly under the envelope. He pulled it out, his breath catching as he read the note:
“You forgot the wedding vows.”
The words were simple, but they hit him like a hammer. A flood of memories rushed
back her face on their wedding day, radiant with love and trust, as they exchanged vows. He had promised to honor, cherish, and remain faithful to her. Promises he had shattered without a second thought.
Tears welled in his eyes, blurring Cassie’s handwriting as he clutched the note tightly. He had not only had an affair. He had betrayed he, lied to her and disregarded everything they had once shared.

Max leaned back against the wall, his mind racing. Cassie had known for how long? Weeks? Months? She had been avoiding him, pulling away, not out of coldness but out of the unbearable pain of knowing.
She had been planning all this. Planning on leaving him meanwhile he was too consumed by Violet to notice her. He had ruined their marriage with his own hands.
He wiped his face with the back of his hand, his face pale white.
