On the other end of the call, Janice sounded confused.\
“You’re going back to Arlington to look for Halle? But… wasn’t she dead? Are you saying the missing remains have something to do with her?”
Before she could finish, I hung up–I was already busy booking my flight.
By the time I arrived at the site, the burial pit was completely empty. All that was left were a few talismans once placed by the spiritualist -there wasn’t a single bone in sight.
I turned to my men and coldly instructed, “Check the area for signs.of where Halle went. Go through every bit of surveillance footage nearby. She couldn’t have taken that many bodies far on her own. This time, we have to catch her.”
I stared into the empty pit, my expression stormy.
I couldn’t understand why she would fake her death just to leave me.M
Didn’t she love me? Hadn’t she always loved me?
Was this really about some bones?!
The thought made me scoff bitterly. Once I found her, I was going to get answers.M
Late that night, when I finally returned to the villa, Janice was nowhere to be seen.}
Later, I found her huddled in a corner of the backyard, trembling like a frightened animal.
“Janice, I’m back. What are you doing out here?“}
But the moment she heard my voice, she started shaking even harder. Clutching her ears, she screamed, “Go away! Stay away from me! Get out!”
Stunned, I thought maybe she was having a mental breakdown. I stepped forward and tried to comfort her.
But she lashed out–clawing my face.
“I said don’t touch me! This isn’t my fault–it’s that bitch Halle! She brought this on us!“M
I froze, staring at her in disbelief.}
“Janice… what are you talking about?“}
Only then did she jerk her head up, revealing a face covered in scratch marks. Her eyes were wild, filled with fear and malice. It was like she didn’t even recognize me.”
“So what if I dug up your damn graves?” she shouted. “That whore Halle wouldn’t stop clinging to you! I was never sick–I faked all of it. I just wanted to destroy her. She couldn’t even save her own baby, and she thought she could protect the rest of you? Pathetic!”
Eyes darting everywhere, she continued, “I only married that rich guy because I thought you were dead. Who knew that Halle would end up saving you? And I’m not afraid of you–or her. I’ll kill you all!“}
After that, she lunged at me, gripping a fruit knife in her hand.”
Thankfully, I reacted fast. I dodged and struck her down with a swift blow, knocking her unconscious.
I stared at her crumpled body on the ground, still hearing her words echo in my head.
People had told me before–that Janice hadn’t been forced to leave the country and marry someone else. She had chosen to move on, believing I was dead. (
But I hadn’t believed it. I needed to blame someone, so I blamed Halle. It was easier that way. It helped me pretend I hadn’t been betrayed.
But now, hearing the truth from Janice’s own mouth, there was no hiding from it.
Janice and I had grown up together. I knew she always dreamed of marrying into wealth. That’s why I fought so hard in my family, clawing my way to the top and claiming the heir’s position.
When I finally succeeded, she agreed to marry me.}
But the moment she thought I was gone, she didn’t grieve, she just found a richer man.
And yet, for her, I had betrayed Halle–the one who had truly loved me all along.
Roy came in with a spiritualist. After the examination, the expert gave his diagnosis.!!
“Mr. Stanley, it appears Miss Brewer is under a witch’s hex. That’s what’s causing her to hallucinate.” “Witch’s hex?” I repeated in disbelief.
Halle’s POVE
After Harlan Harvey rescued me from the hospital, I’d been recovering in the Blackfire Tribe’s territory.
During my time there, Maggie had grown fascinated with dark magic. She even took Harlan as her teacher and began studying under him.N Three days ago, once I was strong enough to walk again, I returned to the burial site with Harlan and Maggie–and together, we dug up all sixty–nine corpses from the pit.
