A week passed by just like that.
When my stitches were removed, I could finally get out of bed and move around.
When the doctor said that there was nothing serious with me and I would be able to
recuperate at home, Theo immediately pulled a black card. He insisted that I stay in the hospital
longer.
I couldn’t hold back and started arguing with him, “I want to be discharged from hospital.
What’s wrong with you?”
“There’s staff here to take care of you. If you go home, I’ll have to work and I can’t be at
ease,” he said.
The seriousness in his tone and his stubborn expression made me feel for just a moment,
like we returned to five years ago. Yet, we could not go back to that time.
“Theo, I only had just induced abortion,” I said. “Why are you taking this so seriously?”
As soon as the word left my mouth, he looked hurt.
“Amy, that was our child. How can you be so casual about it? I didn’t blame you for impulsively scheduling the procedure behind my back. I know I was the wrong one in the first place, but the misunderstandings are clearing up now. We can make things right again. Can’t you just give me another chance?”
I pulled up my hospital gown, revealing the stretch marks etched across my stomach.

I Was Eight Month Pregnant and My Husband Told Me to Cook
“What about now? Do you still not find this disgusting?” I asked.
“Theo, I’m no longer the same Amy you used to know and you’re not the man you were either. It’s over between us.”
Stubbornly, I checked myself out of the hospital.
Angry, he gave me the silent treatment.
After dropping me off at home, he left for work without a word.
I didn’t mind and actually happy being free then started packing for my trip abroad.
That evening, I sorted through all the gifts he’d given me over the past five years. They barely filled a single cardboard box.

When I carried it downstairs and threw it into the trash without hesitation, his car pulled into the driveway.
He walked in, washed his hands and headed straight to the kitchen. Two hours later, he set a table full of dishes before me. It was only then I realized he’d been cooking for me.
I thought about the five years I had spent busting my ass in that same kitchen but I had never once tasted anything he made.
- me.
For a moment, I could only laugh bitterly at myself.
The meal was tasteless to me.
Knowing I’d leave tomorrow, I suppressed every emotion.
After clearing the table, he pulled out a gift box from his coat pocket and placed it in front of
“A five–year anniversary gift. Open it,” he said.
“There is no need. Save it for your next partner,” I replied.
“Amy, do you have to be so cruel?” he admonished.
“This is nothing compared to Jenny. Consider it a compliment,” I replied.
Though Jenny would no longer appear in our lives, she’d already become an unbridgeable chasm between us. We both knew that.
That night, I carried my blanket to the guest room and slept there.
My phone buzzed non–stop with his apology messages, each accompanied by large money
transfers.
The once–green chat bubbles had finally turned blue, but I no longer had the heart to care.
At dawn, I heard him close the door as he left.
I got up, freshened up and booked a taxi to the airport. On the way, I deleted all his contact information.
On the way there, I deleted all his contact information.
The last thing I left him was a message. “I never want to see you again. This ends here.” The house was his, bought after his business succeeded. It had nothing to do with me.

The last thing I left him was a message. “I never want to see you again. This ends here.” The house was his, bought after his business succeeded. It had nothing to do with me. Leaving was easier than I thought. Letting go of this relationship was simpler than I had imagined.
Perhaps there had been countless moments before when I’d been one step away from complete disappointment.
Now, after giving my all, I have no regrets left.
As the plane took off, I bid farewell to the person I used to be.
May every day ahead be better than the years before.
