I jerked my head up at his words, feeling ice–cold all over. Everyone else stood there in stunned silence too.[]
Camden held Scarlett tighter, like he’d made up his mind, his expression dead serious. “But I have to marry Scarlett. I can give Melody a title for show–let her be Mrs. Thorne in name. That should work, right?“]]
Mr. Thorne’s eyes flickered. After a moment of silence, he waved dismissively. “Whatever.” Then he walked off looking satisfied.[]
I knew he didn’t care who was on Camden’s marriage certificate–he only cared about the family’s reputation. As long as I was Mrs. Thorne publicly, nothing else mattered to him.
But through all of this, no one bothered asking what I wanted.]
Like I was just some disposable toy they could toss around wherever they felt like it.[]
Camden walked over, looking down at me with a patronizing tone. “You didn’t cheat this time–guess you did something decent for once. I can grudgingly give you a title, but if you step out of line, I’ll make your life a living hell.“[]
He figured I was still that same Melody who’d loved him to death, who’d agree to anything he said.[]
But remembering the agony of having my tendons sliced in my past life, I clenched my fists, face pale as a ghost. “I don’t want it.“[]
“What did you just say?” Camden’s brow furrowed in displeasure.
I repeated myself. “I don’t want it. I don’t want your fake title or the Mrs. Thorne position either.“[]
Camden was used to being the golden boy–getting publicly rejected like this made his relaxed expression turn stormy real quick.[]
“You’ve got some nerve. Say that again!“]
I looked him straight in the eye. “I said I DON’T WANT IT!“]]
Seeing how stubborn I was being, panic flashed in Camden’s eyes. Just as he was about to say something, Scarlett suddenly stepped forward with tears in her dropped to her knees beside me.
“Melody, I truly love Camden–I’d die without him. But I can’t stand seeing him forced into such pain…“[]
“I know you despise me. Since you can’t stand having me around, I’ll bow out. Just please treat him well and stop playing these hard–to–get games with him.“[]

With that, Scarlett covered her face, sobbing as she ran toward the door.
Camden’s face suddenly went white with panic. He immediately rushed up and pulled her into his arms.]
Scarlett cried and struggled, but he just held her tighter.]
Before I could react, poker chips came flying at me from the table. Next thing I knew, blood was trickling down my forehead.[]

Camden anded and ruffled her hair affectionately. “Such a scaredy–cat. What’s there to be afraid of? I’m here–I’ll protect you forever.“]]
The man’s smile overlapped with my memories of him as a teenager.]

Hearing this, Camden’s expression grew complicated. After staring at me for a long moment, he suddenly exploded with rage, spitting out hatefully, “Fine! You wanna get married? When you marry down, you live down. He’s a servant in the Thorne household, so starting today, you’re a servant too. From now on, you’ll do all the laundry, cooking, and cleaning for the Thorne family! Let’s see how low you can go–when you can’t take it anymore, don’t come crawling back to me!“]
With that, Camden stormed off, dragging Scarlett with him.]
The crowd had gotten their entertainment. With the Vegas prince gone, they all scattered too.
Only the scarred mute driver remained, staring at me with an unreadable expression.[]
