Chapter 4
Camden frowned slightly. “It just tried to bite Scarlett…“]
Before he could finish, I immediately apologized. “Im sorry, Ms. Rivers. Please forgive him! He’s just a little fox. I swear I’ll keep a better eye on him and never let him get out again.”
Snowball was trembling in my arms. I tried to comfort him, even as blood from my festering wounds stained his white fur red. I didn’t stop.[]
Camden stared at me with a complicated expression, complex emotions flashing in his eyes.
Just when his stern look seemed to soften, Scarlett suddenly covered her hand and sobbed. “Camden, my wound really hurts. May I die from it?“]
Her tears snapped Camden back to reality.
His briefly relaxed expression hardened again as he impatiently shouted at the servants nearby, “What are you waiting for? Drag it away and kill it! An animal’s just an animal–once it bites someone, it’s got no right to live.“[]
The next second, the servants forcibly ripped Snowball from my arms.

Suddenly the whole world went gray, all color drained away, leaving only red in my vision.
Aringing filled my ears as I completely blacked out.]
When I came to, Camden was standing by my bed with a cold expression.[]
“Do you get it now?“||]
I numbly nodded. This time I wouldn’t argue with anything he said.[]
I closed my eyes, and images of Snowball’s gruesome death flashed through my mind. Tears fell uncontrollably–I was completely terrified.[]
The person in front of me wasn’t the Camden I used to know. He was a demon straight out of hell![]
Seeing how obedient I looked, Camden nodded with satisfaction and handed me a paper bag.]
“Scarlett and I already got our marriage license. The wedding’s next week, but since you’re Mrs. Thorne to the public, you’ll attend too. Consider it my way of making it up to you.“[]
Inside the bag was a simple white dress.
Didn’t take a genius to figure out how over–the–top Scarlett’s would be.
One wedding, two brides–Camden really knew how to put on a show.
I let out a cold laugh.
Yet Camden thought I was laughing with joy about attending the wedding. His tone softened. “Did you really think I’d make you marry that driver? Melody, that was just to scare you. You might not be my real wife, but I won’t shortchange you on what you deserve. Just one thing–don’t mess with Scarlett.”
“Camden–Scarlett’s sweet voice called from the living room.
Camden left me with one final warning: “She’s innocent and kind–hearted. She can’t compete with
your scheming, so
you better
go easy on her.” Then he turned and left.
Over the next few days, Camden and Scarlett were busy with wedding prep, so I finally got some peace.]]
The day before the wedding was my mother’s death anniversary.
After visiting her grave, I came home to find Scarlett coming out of my room. In her hands was my mom’s keepsake–a necklace.[]
Rage flared inside me as I reached for it, shouting, “That’s mine! Give it back!“]]
Scarlett was a head taller than me. She held it up high, looking down at me smugly. “It’s mine now. I like this necklace–it’ll go perfectly with my wedding dress tomorrow.”
I stared at her in disbelief. “Why? Camden’s bought you stuff a hundred times better than this. Why took mine?“]
Scarlett smiled, whispering in my ear like a venomous snake. “Why? Because taking away other people’s stuff is fun. Because I hate you. Camden wants to marry both of us? No way in hell! I’m gonna be his ONLY wife. As for you–just wait till he loathes you!“]
With that, she suddenly stepped back and tumbled down the stairs.]
Camden… help me!“]

I immediately ran down to help her up, but hurried footsteps came from behind, along with Camden’s furious roar: “Melody!” A vicious slap landed across my face.
The force was so brutal my whole face went numb, burning with pain.
“Scarlett, are you okay?!“]]
Scarlett curled up in Camden’s arms, eyes red with tears. “Melody tried to steal my necklace. When I wouldn’t give it to her, she went crazy and pushed me down the stairs. Camden, I’m so scared–it hurts so much.”
Veins bulged at Camden’s temples as he stood up with a dark expression, looking down at me with blood–red eyes. Suddenly he lifted his foot and kicked me hard in the chest.
“Get some guys over here! Throw her in the sauna room–let her think about what she’s done!“]
I curled up on the floor in agony as several bodyguards rushed over, grabbed my arms and legs, and dragged me to the sauna room, locking the door from the outside.[]
Scorching heat hit me–the sauna was like an oven. I clutched my chest and frantically pounded on the door. “Camden, my heart hurts! It’s so hot in here–let me out!”
Camden’s ice–cold voice came through the door. “I want you to hurt–maybe then you’ll learn your lesson. Stay in there and think about your behavior.“[]
“You better show up to tomorrow’s wedding on time, or you know what’ll happen.“[]
His footsteps faded away as the sauna temperature kept climbing.
The thermometer went from 104 degrees to 158 degrees Fahrenheit.
The scorching heat burned my skin raw. My nails dug into the floor, leaving bloody scratches.[]
I felt like my blood was boiling, breathing got harder and harder, my heartbeat slower and slower.[]
Just when I thought I was gonna die in there, the sauna door suddenly got kicked open.[]
Through my haze, a tall figure strode in, scooped me into his arms, his voice low and raspy.
“Melody, I’m here. Don’t be scared.”
