Chapter 8:
When I pushed the door open, the scene that greeted me was almost comical Soren was hall sitting on the edge of the bed, draped in a then hotel blanket, his face contorted in pain and confusion. The guy looked like he was about to pass out or punch a wall–maybe both. Alison, my cousin, was hovering beside him with a fake soothing tone “Don’t worry, Soren. She’s a doctor. She can help. It’s nothing.
He glanced up at me with obvious discomfort, but the pain overiled his pride. Wordlessly, he gave me a small nod, bracing himself
I snapped on a pair of gloves and got to work. It was mangled and a little disturbing, honestly. A few careful cuts and some strategic maneuvering later, I managed to remove the mould off of his length
Soren let out a long, relieved breath, then looked down at the now destroyed object in my hand. His brows furrowed, “What the hell is that thing? Why do you have that inside you?”
Alison froze. For a split second, she looked like a deer in headlights. Then she forced a shaky breath and tried to keep her cool. “It’s, um… it’s a menstrual cup. I thought I might get my period soon, so 1, you know, just wanted to be prepared.”
Soren stared at her, visibly trying to wrap his head around it
“I was going to take a shower and take it out before anything happened, but then you got all… impatient.” Her voice trailed off into a whisper and her cheeks flushed bright red
He turned to me, frowning, his eyes flicking toward the twisted piece of silicone in my hand. “That true?”
I hesitated, mostly because Alison shot me a look that screamed shut up or die. So I gave him a vague, noncommittal answer. “That thing’s definitely not meant to stay in during sex“)
Soren still looked doubtful, but before he could say another word, Alison pulled out the ultimate trump card. She covered her face and burst into tears &
“I gave you my first time and this is how you treat me?” she sobbed, voice trembling like she was in some cheap soap opera.
He paused, eyes darting toward the rumpled bedsheets and the faint trace of red on them. His expression softened instantly, replaced with quilt and tenderness
“Don’t cry, baby. Let’s just pretend this never happened, okay?” Then he turned to me, pleading. “Fran, please… don’t tell anyone about
I nodded, keeping my face neutral. It wasn’t like I needed to tell anyone–this was gold and I planned to hold onto it Relieved, he scribbled out a check on hotel stationery and handed it to me. I didn’t even blink as I took it–two million whole lot of silence
As I stepped out and closed the door behind me, I heard Alison coping to him in her sickly sweet voice.
Tm so sorry you had to go through that, honey. Let me help you feel better”

I didn’t have to guess what she was about to do. She was back to her old routine–using every trick in the book to keep him wrapped around her finger. I thought of the photos from the hospital, of the bruises she’d tried to hide and couldn’t help the smirk that curled on my lips
Back in the courtyard, Aunt Hannah was waiting with her usual brand of disapproval,
“This is their wedding night, Fran! Stop wandering around like pathetic ex–girlfriend, If I see you trying to ruin their wedding night, I swear you’ll get hell of a day.”
Lowered my eyes and nodded obediently, letting her rattle on and bask in the fantasy of their perfect union.
Go ahead and laugh now, Aunt Hannah. You might want to enjoy it while you still dan–because something tells me you

After the wedding. Soren went all out spoiling Alison. He bought her a whole damn villa. Aunt Hannah acted like she’d won the lottery. barking orders at the movers and gloating like she was queen of the world.
But still, didn’t forget to throw sneer at me.
“sell the house,” she said smugly “So you’ll need to find somewhere else to live. That’s what you get for trying to be all independent and moving out“:
Alison chimed in too, her tone just as smug. “If you hadn’t acted like such a snob, you could’ve still lived with us. I even considered setting up a room for you in our new place. But hey, it’s your choice.
I didn’t bother replying. Just quietly packed up my things and moved into a small apartment near the hospital.
For the next few weeks. Alison showed up at the hospital almost e
t every day to pick up her prescriptions.
But within a month, I noticed the signs–she was pregnant.
Aunt Hannah was so overjoyed she nearly passed out. She called everyone she knew and made plans for a baby shower that same week. She had no idea that disaster was already brewing
Once the pregnancy was confirmed. Alison started spiraling. She was temfied Soren would lose interest in her, that she’d no longer be able to keep him satisfied f
Aunt Hannah ever the wise matnarch in her own mind, gave her a dire warning “This is the time other women strike. Pregnant wives get replaced all the time in nch families. You need to hold on to him–body and soul.
And so, Alison went back to the only thing she knew–seduction.

Within minutes, she started bleeding. This time, worse than ever. She couldn’t hold it back and ended up making a mess right there in bed, in front of him.”
The stench filled the room like a punch to the face!
Soren’s expression darkened instantly. He turned to her anger in his voice as he demanded, “What the hell is going on?*%
