Chapter 5
“Honey!“&
The moment she saw me vanish beneath the waves, Isabella’s mind went blank.
Without thinking, she shoved Dash aside and dove in after me with nothing but desperation in her heart.
She searched for two full hours, her limbs trembling, her fingers tom from the salt and rocks, but still, there was no trace of me.X
At last, Samantha called in the professional divers who had been waiting in the shadows. They dragged Isabella back onto the yacht, her body shaking from cold and grief
“No! Let me go! I have to save my husband
She screamed as she fought them off, flailing toward the railing again. It took three, maybe four, people to hold her down and even then, she clawed her way forward like someone possessed.
Enraged, Samantha stormed over, her hand slicing through the air before it landed hard across Isabella’s cheek.
“If you truly wanted to save him, why didn’t you act sooner? Sit down and stop making a scene!“”
Isabella crumpled to the floor, guilt gnawing at her insides. It was as though a cold, sharp blade was slowly cutting into her heart. Why hadn’t she acted sooner??
But Dash was her brother. How could she not save him?0
Her skin drained of color and her body felt like it was made of stone as she stared out at the divers, their oxygen tanks bobbing in and out of the sea like silent ghosts.
An hour passed. Then two.
As the night sank in, it felt as if her soul was pulled into the darkness with it, swallowed by a pit of despair. The weight of her guilt was unbearable, crushing her every breath.
Old memories flickered in her mind, playing out like an old film in reverse. Each image added another layer of heaviness to her chest. Dash leaned over, his voice soft but insistent as he reached for her, “Isabella, I’m cold. Let’s go home, alright? The ocean’s so deep. Who knows where River has drifted by now? Let’s just give up.”
Isabella shoved him away, her touch colder than she had ever been.!
“If you’re cold, go inside. The water’s a thousand times colder than up here:
Dash stared at her, his eyes red and swollen, brimming with hurt
“Isabella, are you blaming me?”
Isabella didn’t respond. Instead, she turned, grabbed a diving suit and dove back into the sea.!
For a full day and night, divers searched relentlessly beneath the waves, but not a single one of them found me.8
The police finally advised them to give up, claiming that after so much time, it was certain I had drowned.!!
The ocean was vast, its depths filled with swirling currents and hidden reefs. Who could say where my body had been carried off to?!! Isabella’s fury reached a boiling point. She was so consumed with rage that she nearly lashed out at a police officer
“You’re lying! River isn’t dead! He’s not dead! He’s just angry with me!”
