Chapter 72
Isabella caught something in her mother’s words, her gaze snapping to Dash.!!
“You’ve never liked River. Why were you with him when the accident happened?”
Dash shifted uncomfortably under her stare. His eyes darted nervously around the room.
“I didn’t know River was up there. I went up and then I saw him fall. I tried to grab him, but he pulled me down with him.”2
“Isabella, what are you trying to say? Are you accusing your own brother?”
There wasn’t a crack in his story, but isabella’s eyes remained cold, her voice steady and chilling.
“You better have nothing to do with River falling into the sea. If you do, I make sure you pay for it.
That night, Isabella had another nightmare.
She dreamt of me, struggling helplessly in the waves, my voice haunting her.
“Isabella, didn’t you promise to save me? Why did you break your promise?”
When she woke, she went to the sea every day, kneeling for hours as the waves crashed over her, the cold water soaking her through, an endless reminder of her broken vow.
She refused to leave even a minute carly
She said she needed to confess and make up for what she’d done.
Samantha hadn’t planned on searching for me again, but seeing her daughter in such pain pushed her to start looking once more.
When they finally found me, I had been married for a week already.
My bride was Breigh Augustus, the woman who had saved me during the dive.
At the café, Samantha hesitated, the words heavy on her tongue.
“Would you be willing to see her just one more time? I can’t stand to watch her destroy herself like this.”
1 sighed, the weight of the situation pressing down on me.
To be honest, I’d heard the whispers; the Moore Family had been searching for me all this time. But I never thought it was necessary to face them again. As far as I was concerned, they could just think of me as dead.
What I didn’t expect was for Isabella to tear herself apart like that.
She had loved Dash. Even on the wedding ring, she’d etched both their names, hidden beneath the surface.
“I really can’t see her. My wife is quite jealous. But how about this: I’ll write a letter for her, a letter to give her some closure.“8
Seeing that I truly didn’t want to meet Isabella, Samantha agreed to my suggestion. But I never imagined that after receiving my letter, Isabella wouldn’t let go. Instead, she began targeting Breigh
To force me to see her, she deliberately intercepted Breigh’s business deals, sabotaging her projects at every turn.
Watching her refusal to give up, I finally decided to meet her in person and settle everything once and for all.
But Breigh clung to me, her expression filled with displeasure.”
“I don’t want you to go. If you meet her won’t she think I’m afraid of her?”
I kissed her cheek, then spoke softly, offering the truth to comfort her
“With your ability, why would I ever think you couldn’t handle her? But Breight the Moore Family, helped me once. I can’t just stand by and watch her tear them apart over something so pointless.”
Breigh said nothing more, choosing to respect my decision
She had always been like this, full of care, love and trust.
I chose the same cafe where we’d first met.!!
Isabella arrived early, wearing the dress I had once complimented her on. She sat at the table, nervously adjusting her makeup, her fingers trembling with each touch
I walked over with steady steps, sitting down across from her.
The moment she saw me, her pale face brightened, a spark of hope lighting up her eyes.
“River, it’s been a while. Have you been well?“}}
I offered a faint smile. “Pretty well, if you’d stop ruining my life.”
Isabella’s expression froze, her fingers fidgeting as if searching for something to hold on to.
“River, I read your letter, but there are a lot of misunderstandings. I think I need to explain them to you in person.7
