Chapter 4

Damien’s grip completely loosened, and I seized the opportunity to break free.
Looking up, I met Louis’s eyes directly.
I’m sure it wasn’t just me—everyone present could see Louis’s displeasure.
Today was supposed to be Louis’s welcome party, but because of Ashley’s provocations, the event had descended into chaos.
Just as I was about to explain, Louis grabbed my arm and pulled me against his chest without hesitation.
“Who did this to your wrist?”
Following Louis’s gaze, I realized my arm was bleeding.
It must have happened when Damien accidentally cut me while threatening me with his butterfly knife. I’d been too tense to notice.
Damien frowned, staring at Louis and me with a sour expression.
“Uncle Louis just got back from abroad and you’re already throwing yourself at him? You’re so cheap. Wasn’t seducing me enough? How many men’s beds are you trying to climb into?”

2/4 I clenched my fists in anger and explained frankly, “Stop talking nonsense! I’ve been nothing but proper all these years! Nothing ever happened between us, and I certainly haven’t been with any other men. Clearly, it’s the filthy–minded man who thinks disgusting thoughts–you’re the one without decency!”
Damien, seeing me stand up for myself for the first time, turned bright red.
“You little bitch, am I being too nice to you? You think I won’t hit you just because you have someone backing you up?”
He lunged toward me cursing, and I backed away in fear.
A broad shoulder stepped in front of me just in time. Louis effortlessly executed a shoulder throw that sent Damien crashing to the floor.
Damien lay there clutching his waist in pain, his face full of resentment, yet he didn’t dare say a word against Louis.
“Damien, you clearly need some discipline.”
Louis stretched his neck and wrists, revealing his athletic physique from years of working out.
His fierce gaze fixed on Damien, looking as if he could end him at any moment.
I shrank behind Louis, gently tugging at his sleeve.

“Please… no fighting.”
My voice was barely audible, but Louis’s aggression instantly dissipated.

He turned to look at me, his eyes filled with tenderness I’d never seen before.
“This time, I won’t let you get hurt again…”
He held me close, his voice uncharacteristically gentle.
I stood there bewildered, trying to understand what he meant.
Without further hesitation, Louis scooped me up in his arms and strode toward the exit.
Damien, who had been sprawled on the floor like a beaten dog, suddenly jumped to his feet.
“Louis, don’t you find it disgusting to hold your nephew’s wife in your arms? Or have you, as his uncle, been eyeing my wife all along? Are you some kind of pervert who’s into married women?”
Louis remained completely unfazed by Damien’s accusations, continuing to hold me close.
“You two aren’t even legally married yet, so how is Brielle your wife? Besides, I don’t think Brielle wants to marry you anymore. Since this is a family arrangement, Brielle could just as well marry me instead.”

He looked down at me, his eyes filled with expectation.
Where others couldn’t see, he gently caressed my palm, as if coaxing me to say what he wanted to hear.
My heart raced wildly. Before I could fully process what was happening, I found myself speaking as if enchanted.
“That’s right. I won’t marry Damien–I’ll marry you.”
The scene immediately erupted into chaos, with everyone chattering and discussing the situation.
Damien stood frozen like a statue, while Louis smiled and covered my ears, shielding me from all the gossip.
“Little one… this time, you have to keep your word.“
