On the way, Alastair couldn’t resist asking, “How are you planning to repay him?”
I looked at him, confused by his question. He kept his eyes on the road, his tone and expression serious as he continued, “He saved your life and from what I know, you’re a good person. You wouldn’t let his kindness go
unreturned. So, how do you plan to repay him? Are you going back to him?”
Honestly, I was caught off guard. How could he have guessed what was running through my mind? After a deep breath, I smiled. I reached out my hand, intertwining my fingers with his.
“Does this answer your question?”
He tightened his grip on my hand. “Loud and clear,” he said.
A grin spread across his face, one he couldn’t quite suppress. “Though, I’d still prefer to say it. I love you, Irene
Osborne”
I couldn’t help but smile, my heart warming and softly replied, “Mm–hhm.”
When we arrived at the hospital, Brian was awake, lying on the bed. The moment his eyes fell on our intertwined
hands, the smile on his face froze.
“You come to visit?” his voice low.
Hand in hand with Alastair, I walked up to him. Together, we stated out gratitude.
“Brian, I want to thank you for saving my life,” I said.

“Brian, I want to thank you for saving my life,” I said.
Alastair added, “Thank you for saving the person I love.”
“Angela,” Brian’s eyes turned red. “I was wrong and I’m so sorry. Please, give me another chance.”
I shook my head and said coldly, “Brian, the moment you handed over everything I worked so hard to build to Laurel, we were done. And later, when I begged you to help me as I struggled with my injured wrist, you chose Laurel without hesitation. There’s no chance to us anymore.”
Brian closed his eyes, tears streaming down the corners.
“I realized it too late. I hurt you for that vile woman. I’m really sorry, Angela”
“Angela is dead, crushed under the rubble when that stage collapsed. The day you saved Laurel, that’s the day I became Irene,” I said firmly, bringing closure to it all.
Then I looked at Alastair. He understood the meaning behind my gaze and took my hand, leading me out of the
room.
Just as we were about to reach the door, Brian’s agonized voice called out behind us.
“If I had saved you instead of Laurel that day, would you still be with me?”
I stopped in my tracks, not bothering to look back. “No, because I hate liars. And there’s nothing I hate more than
a cheater–and you’ve been both since the first day we met.”
After we returned to Dubai, Alastair couldn’t wait any longer and proposed to me.
I smiled broadly, my happiness spilling over.
“Yes.”
He gently slipped a ring onto my finger.
It was a plain band, without a single diamond–a symbol of pure love. And a reminder that loving oneself is the
beginning of true romance.
Later, I heard gossip from a friend back home. Brian survived but was left with severe back injuries that confined
him to bed for the rest of his life.
As for Laurel, her feigned mental illness was exposed and she was convicted of attempted murder and
sentenced to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Alastair and I were expecting our second child. Our first was a boy, but this time, he desperately hoped for a girl.
He came home early today. After dropping his bag, he couldn’t wait to rub my belly.
“How’s my baby girl tonight? Is she comfortable in there?” he whispered. “Can you hear me, baby girl? It’s your daddy. Daddy’s home early to be with you.”
I chuckled, feeling my stomach shake with the movement.
“What if it’s another boy?” I asked softly.
“Hmm, I don’t think so. You’re going to be Daddy’s little girl, aren’t you? Daddy’s precious daughter.”
I shook my head and smiled at his stubbornness. In the end, we really had a daughter. He got what he wished for
