Chapter 15
Jessica mistook Samuel’s words completely. Giggling, she threw herself at him and said, “Doesn’t that make it even more thrilling? Samuel, we–Hey! What are you doing?”
She was halfway through her sentence when Samuel ripped the nightgown off her. He couldn’t stand it anymore. Ignoring her shrieks of protest, he only stopped when he got the nightgown off and threw it onto the floor. Through it all, he never once bothered looking at her properly.
The household staff were merely here to do their jobs. None of them wanted to bear witness to such a scene, so they quickly ran off.
Jessica was alarmed at first, but when she found that they were alone, she immediately jumped to her own erroneous conclusion. Smiling coyly, she said, “It’s not like I can’t tell what’s on your mind. Why did you have to be so rough with me?”
While speaking, she squirmed her way into Samuel’s arms again with no intention of covering herself up. Their relationship started as a purely physical one. Neither one invested any real emotions into it, so she didn’t think there was a reason to feel embarrassed. All she needed to do was satisfy his physical desires, and she’d be rich.
Jessica didn’t care if he treated her as a plaything or a mistress. All she wanted was to become his wife and get her hands on his assets.
She was still daydreaming about finally marrying rich, but Samuel’s immediate reaction was to push her off him. “You have no shame at all! You’re not worthy of wearing her clothes or touching her things!”
His eyes were filled with anger. He glowered at her in sheer repulsion, looking like he didn’t even want to touch her.
Jessica had assumed she was on the verge of achieving her goal and would soon become Samuel’s wife. She showed up at the house fully prepared to persuade him to get a divorce. For that very reason, she dolled herself up and even put on a loose nightgown with nothing but her underwear beneath.
“Why are you calling me shameless? Haven’t you always liked the side of me?” Jessica questioned, her face pale.
She tried to grab the nightgown, but Samuel stopped her.
Gaze icy, he confronted her. “If you had even the slightest bit of decency, you wouldn’t have sent those messages to Emily, and you certainly wouldn’t have secretly taken intimate photos of us! I warned you from the start not to parade yourself in front of her! You’re the reason why she left, aren’t you?”
Samuel pushed all the blame onto Jessica, as if doing so would negate all the hurt he caused Emily.
Even though Jessica realized he’d found out about what she did, she immediately feigned ignorance. “What are you talking about? Why would I send any sort of messages or photos to Emily? I’ve been trying to hide from her all along! Did she get tipped off by something?”
After all, there was no way of proving she had any involvement in this. And moreover, she didn’t think Emily would want to remain in this marriage after finding out that Samuel had cheated on her.
“You’re still trying to lie to me!” Samuel nearly snorted in anger. “I was blind to dote on a worthless woman like you. You were never more than a plaything to me, and yet you had the audacity to dream of becoming my wife. To me, you’re not even fit to lick the ground Emily walked on!”
Angered at his failure to find Emily, he took it all out on Jessica. It was most definitely her fault. Emily, the love of his life, only left him because Jessica messaged her. Even if he’d done something wrong, he wasn’t the one who had the most fault in the matter.
It was Jessica’s first time seeing such a menacing look in Samuel’s eyes when he looked at her. She became even more certain she couldn’t admit to doing anything of the sort. Shielding her chest with her arms, she exclaimed, “She must’ve faked the messages to frame me!”
Jessica tried to head upstairs to change back into her clothes, but Samuel refused to let her leave. He dragged her right back.
“Samuel! What are you doing?” Jessica squealed in a panic.
Samuel didn’t bother wasting his breath on her. He held up his phone, which still had Emily’s SIM card in it. The screen clearly showed all of the indecent photos and provocative messages Jessica once sent.
Jessica didn’t expect Emily to show these things to Samuel. She blurted out, “Huh? Shouldn’t she just ask you for a divorce instead?”
As soon as those words came out, she realized she’d misspoken and quickly tried to salvage the situation. “I–I didn’t mean to lie to you. I was just afraid you’d be mad at me. Please forgive me just this once. If not because of how much I love you, I never would’ve done such a risky-”
Cutting her off with a scoff, Samuel said, “Is it me you love, or my money and the status that comes with being my wife? You know full well what the answer is.”
He was beside himself with regret for having driven Emily off all for a woman like Jessica.
Samuel hit the nail right on the head, but Jessica couldn’t bear to give up now, not after all the effort she’d put in so far. Clutching the edge of his shirt, she tearfully pleaded, “They say time reveals all. After all this time, can’t you see whether my feelings for you are real? Everything I do is for the sake of being with you.
“Do you think Emily truly loves you? If she did, she would get jealous, but did she? Not once did she ever respond to me. I did it for your sake. If not for the sake of revealing her true colors to you, I wouldn’t have risked sending those photos to her. What if she made them public and—”
“Shut up!” Samuel roared.
He no longer fell for Jessica’s tricks.
