Chapter 13
When the assistant dog out that phone from the trash can, Calvin’s face instantly turned pale.
No one knew Shyla’s personality better than him.
She said she would completely let go, and she definitely did.
Whether it was Calvin or her parents, there was no chance of redemption.
That heart, which once carried a glimmer of hope, completely fell silent at this moment,
People were coming and going at the airport, some leaving hand in hand, while others waving goally
He stood alone in the crowd, motionless, unsure of where to go.
Go back? He was unwilling
Did he go to see her? He was afraid to hear those words of giving up with his owners.
To stay or not to stay, to see or not to see, both became dilemmas that he couldn’t choose.
The assistant on the side was not sure what he was thinking, but she dialed the number directly after receiving it
g it from the secretary.
“Hello? Is this Ariella Moran? Hi, this is the Headquarters of the Gutierrez Group. We are contacting you to ask a few questions regarding Ms. Moran, Are you available
After receiving a positive response, the assistant handed the phone directly to Calvin
“Mr. Gutierrez, we contacted Ms. Moran’s i
”
Calvin hesitated as he looked at the phone in her hand.
He took a deep breath and answered the phone until a voice of confusion came through
“Ariella, long time no see. I’m Calvin. I’m currently at Hedgeview Airport. Are you available to meet me in person? Yes, please don’t tell
Shyla about this for now“.
After discussing the address, he rubbed his forehead and relieved himself of the complicated emotions in his mind, then turned around
and felt the airport.
He arrived at the café and ordered a cup of black coffee.
He had not slept for nearly thirty hours, and he was at the end of his tether, relying only on external stimuli to stay awake.
After Ariella entered, she immediately saw him and waved to signal him.
“Calvin? Long time no see. You’ve matured so much; I almost didn’t recognize you.”
The last time the two people met was more than a decade ago.
Calvin was the youngest in this generation, and Ariella was seven or eight years older than him. She had been taking care of him since they were young, and the two of them had a good relationship.
After all, it had been so long since they had seen each other, and so much had happened in the meantime, that both of them were
somewhat reserved.
After a brief exchange of greetings, Calvin was the first to speak
“It’s so late to bother you, but it’s actually for Shyla. You know she has been with me all these years, and now she suddenly wants to go abroad. As her elder, I always have some concerns in my heart, sol came along to see how things are.”
Ariella, being a mother herself, naturally understood Calvin’s thoughts and nodded repeatedly.
“Yes, I want to thank you. If it wasn’t for you raising Shyla by your side, our Moran family would have had a hard time getting through the difficult times, I really appreciate it. Shyla has grown up now, even though she was raised by the Gutierrez family and not formally adopted, she is still an outsider. You are not young anymore, about to start your own family, and she will always be with you, which will inevitably affect your life. You have been working hard for her for over ten years, and I don’t want to trouble you anymore, why I thought about bringing her over.”
Ariella spoke sincerely, but it didn’t sit well with Calvin
He had heard this countless times from others.
Over the past decade, whether it was his parents, sisters, friends, or colleagues, they all advised him to send Shyla to Landhall. They urged him to think more about himself and not to carry such a burden, so as to avoid gossip from others.
But he never thought about leaving Shyla
No matter the past, present, or future, he wanted to keep her by his side.
His biggest regret in his life was that he was born ten years too early.
If he hadn’t been so much older than her, if he hadn’t experienced the harsh reality of the world too early, if he hadn’t been bound by
So back when Shyla was 17 and made a move on him, his response wouldn’t have been to push her away, but to hold her tight
Every time she called out “uncle” from her mouth, it was both a responsibility and a constraint for him, both a blessing and a torment.
He had no choice
