Chapter 13
“Micah, stop drinking.”
Micah was downing glass after glass of liquor. He could only quiet the storm inside him momentarily through this numbing escape. “How could Lena leave me? She loved me so much…”
His friend helplessly watched him, unsure of how to console him. In the end, they ended up calling Laris.
“Micah, that’s enough.” Laris rushed over and took the glass from his hand.
“Leave us alone,” Micah said.
The others in the private room took the hint and silently filed out, leaving the space to Micah and Laris.
Laris swept all the glasses off the table when she saw the state he was in.
She couldn’t fathom the situation. Lena had already left him. Not to mention, he was the one who wanted to dump Lena because of her. So, why had he sunken into this pit of despair?
She sat beside him and asked, “Micah, wasn’t I the one you loved most?”
Micah lowered his head and remained silent.
“I know you care about me. You were willing to leave Lena to be with me. You even risked damage to Shaw Group just to crash the wedding. “Micah
“Micah, I know I was wrong back then. I never should’ve walked away. But I’m back now. I still love you, and you still love me. Why can’t we just be together again?”
Micah had only married Lena out of spite toward Laris in the first place. This should’ve been the outcome he wanted all along. But why didn’t he feel happy?
Laris noticed the brief falter in his expression and immediately hugged him. “It was wrong of me to leave for my studies without telling you back then. Micah, Lena’s gone now. Let’s just be together, alright?”
Micah was slightly drunk. He looked at Laris with an unreadable expression.
He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t even know what he truly wanted anymore.
Did he love Lena?
In the beginning, it was all just to prove a point. But after all those years together, she had even carried his child.
He couldn’t deny that he had genuinely developed feelings for her along the way.
But what about Laris? She was his first love—a girl he had once loved with his all. But did he still love her after all these years?
He was uncertain about it. His mind was a tangled mess.
“But it hurt me so bad when Lena left.”
Laris could tell that Micah was drunk. She hesitantly said, “You’re just not used to it yet. You’ll forget all about her once we’re together.”
She was waiting for an answer from him.

But Micah gently pushed her away when she leaned in. He then staggered toward the door and asked his friends outside to take him home.
Laris was left without an answer. She stared at his retreating figure and hurled a pillow from the couch onto the floor.
