Sebastian cleared his throat
He paused for a moment, and then his deep voice cut through with biting contempt.
“She wouldn’t have had to leave the country if she hadn’t made a mess of things herself.”
“She made Isolde suffer, and there’s no way I’m letting her off the hook.”
Isolde let out a soft laugh, her tone syrupy sweet.
“Sebastian, you’re too good to me.
But still, watching you with that ugly cow these past few years–ugh, I was seriously jealous.”
Through the window, I saw Sebastian pull her into his arms.
He spoke with the same tender voice I’d heard so many times before.
“You know I only love you, Isolde.”
“I’d never have touched her if it wasn’t to get back at her for what she did to you.
She’s a nobody. An orphan. No parents, no family,”
An orphan…
I stood there, my mouth open, chest heaving like I couldn’t catch my breath.
The pain hit me like a freight train, and I was right back in that moment-
On the ground, trampled and humiliated.
But this… this was worse than everything before.
Sebastian, you promised.
You said you’d never judge me.
You were the one who stood up for me when everyone else laughed.
You were the one who said you’d stay by my side because I didn’t have anyone else.
You were the one who loved me more than anything…
Weren’t you?
My heart felt like it was being shredded, every inemory of happiness now dripping with poison.

Chapter 3
I could barely stand from the ache.
Wiping my tears, I told myself I didn’t want to hear more.
I just wanted to go home.
Back to the place I’d made with Sebastian, where we’d picked out furniture together, hung up lights, and made a life.
If I could just get home and pretend none of this happened…
Tomorrow, maybe he’d still walk through that door with his arms wide open, just like always.
Maybe we’d still be the couple everyone envied.
Shaking, I turned to leave, but then I heard Isolde’s voice from the suite again.
“I don’t believe you.”
Sebastian sounded amused.
“Don’t believe what?”
Isolde giggled, her tone thick with cruelty.
“Not unless… she gives back every cent of that settlement.”
I froze mid–step.
My heart dropped like a stone.
That money…
It was the compensation for everything she’d done to me-
For the harassment, the injuries, the trauma.
And it was the only money I’d set aside to remove the scar from my face.
Sebastian knew that.
He knew better than anyone how self–conscious I was.
How badly I wanted to look normal.
To stand beside him without feeling like everyone was staring at me for the wrong reasons.
He knew it was my dream.
There’s no way…
No way he’d be that cruel.

Chapter 3
Even if it was just out of pity….
My lip was bleeding from how hard I was biting it.
I stood there, frozen, bracing for his reply.
Inside the suite, silence stretched.
So long I let myself believe he was going to say no.
So long a tiny smile began to creep across my face.
Then I heard him say it.
Clear and cold.
“I’ll do it.”
