“The day before we were supposed to leave.”
“I found the marriage certificate in your coat pocket.”
I said it without any expression, but my chest ached with every word.

“If you love me, why are you being so cold?”

“Why can’t you just give me a little time to fix things?”

His voice wasn’t exactly quiet, and several heads had already turned.
People were staring
But Dashiell didn’t seem to care. He kept going
“You were the one who said we didn’t have to get legally married yet, or have a wedding.”
“So what difference does it make if I married Anna?”
I couldn’t believe how shameless he was.
“What difference?”
“Are you seriously saying I should just be okay with you marrying someone else behind my back?”
“That I should stick around as your side chick while you play both of us?”
“Dashiell, I did love you.”
“Truly.”
“But the moment I found that marriage certificate in your coat, we were done.”
“We’re breaking up.”
“Own up to what you did, admit it to everyone, and I’ll leave you alone.”
I stood up and walked away without looking back.
