By the time the police car arrived at the station, my father, Henry Williams, was already there, standing with a lawyer. The moment he saw me, his face contorted with an anger I had never seen before.
“So, you remember you have a father after all?” he spat, his words sharp like a slap. “I honestly thought I’d never hear from you again.“”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and before I could stop them, they just spilled out, hot and fast.}
I shook as I tried to speak through my sobs. “Dad, I’m sorry. I’ll never make you mad again.“}
As soon as the words left my mouth, everything went black.}
I could barely hear my father’s frantic voice calling my name, but my mind was already slipping away.
I tried to speak, tried to explain, but all I could manage was a faint whisper, “Dad, I was blind, I embarrassed you,” before the darkness took over.

I woke up, and the first sound I heard was the beeping of medical machines. Disoriented, I turned my head and saw medical devices around me, tubes poking into my skin.
A nurse walked in when she saw I was awake.
“Miss Zoey, you’re awake,” she said gently. “How are you feeling? A little better?”
I looked around, still trying to gather myself. “What happened to me?“>
The nurse hesitated, her gaze dropping slightly before she spoke. “You had a high fever that led to pneumonia. There was fluid in your lungs, but the doctor drained it and started an IV to treat the inflammation.”
I frowned, trying to piece the events together, but everything felt hazy. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my chest. I pressed my hand against it, and just as quickly, the pain eased.
Before I could think any more about it, my dad walked in, holding a container of crab roe porridge.
When he saw me, his tired eyes softened, and his lips curled into a small smile.
He opened the thermos and spooned some porridge into my mouth. “Here, try it. How’s it taste? You used to love this when you were little.“2
I opened my mouth again, the lump in my throat almost choking me. My dad’s kindness was the only thing that felt right at this moment, the only thing that mattered.
“Alright, alright,” he said gently, “Forget about all that. It’s just some jerk, right? You’re Henry Williams‘ daughter, the princess of Greenfield City. Who wouldn’t love you? Once you’re better, I’ll find you a guy a hundred times better than that idiot.”
I managed a shaky laugh through my tears, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. “Dad, I don’t want anyone else. From now on, I’m staying by your side and helping you with the company.“>
My dad smiled and put his hand on my shoulder, looking proud. “That’s my girl. Whatever you want, I’m all in. You can do anything, and you’ve got me behind you.“2
As I looked at him, the wrinkles around his eyes, the silver in his hair, I felt this overwhelming urge to throw myself into his arms and cry.} I wanted to tell him I was sorry for everything, for being ungrateful and for making him worry. My mom and dad shared a love so deep and pure. After my mom passed away suddenly twenty years ago, he refused to remarry and gave everything he had to me.
I believed that all men would love like my dad loved my mom.
But this time, I knew better.?
Some men were simply selfish and cruel./
They get arrogant when they gain power, and no matter how much you give, they’ll always take more, like wolves that feed on the hand that fed them.
I spent three days recuperating in the hospital before Tyler finally remembered me.
