Chapter 4M
The laughter inside the booth faded, replaced by muffled, indecent sounds that fueled the raging fire in my
After all, Jill was still my wife, at least legally and she should not act like this!
Just when I was about to push the curtain and barge in, I collided with a server carrying a tray of wine.”
chest.
I awkwardly crouched down to help him pick up the shards of glass while listening to his impatient accusations, “Are you blind? How
could you not watch where you’re going? This is our boss’s wine, especially mixed. There is only this one!”
“You look unfamiliar. Sneaking around for so long. Wait! Don’t tell me you’re spying on the boss’s wife, huh?” he asked.}
Hearing the commotion, the two people inside walked out. The tall strong man came out with hickeys all over his neck while Jill followed him behind in a disheveled state.
When she saw me, her face was a bit shocked and she subconsciously adjusted the corner of her shirt.
“Maxwell… what are you doing here? Weren’t you sleeping?” she asked.
I stared at her coldly then sneered, “Don’t insult my intelligence, Jill. Do you forget I’m a doctor? Did you really think I wouldn’t notice the drug you slipped into my milk?”
Jill subconsciously yelled angrily, “How could it be? For so many years you’re just some washed–up doctor who stuck in an ordinary clinic for years. What could you possibly know?“@
“You’ve been suspicious for weeks,” she continued, her voice rising. “Were you planning to follow me all along? Gosh, Maxwell, you’re so cunning.!”
It was obviously her fault but she tried to gaslight me.
I let out a bitter laugh. “Jill, you’re really something. You are like a snake in the fable. I’ve saved you, nursed you to health and poured my entire savings into taking care of you. Instead of gratitude, you repay me with deceit and malice. Do you even have a conscience?”
Her body trembled with rage. She stormed over, grabbed my hair and slapped me hard across the face.”
Just when I was about to get up and retort, the waiter behind me shoved me and pressed me to the ground.” “Are you trying to fight back? You’ve got a death wish!” he yelled.
Glass shards dug into my knees, blood soaking through my pants, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the searing ache in my heart.
Jill sneered and taunted me while clinging to his arms, “Maxwell, if it weren’t for your botched surgery, I wouldn’t have been left as a paraplegic. I wouldn’t have been abandoned by my parents or forced to live inhumanely for years. Everything I endured is because of you. You deserve every ounce of suffering and that’s not enough even if I cut you into pieces! You owe me!“}]
The man smirked, looking down at me with mockery in his eyes.}
“Honestly, bro, I’ve been in your face so many times and you never caught on. If anyone’s to blame, it’s your own stupidity.“”
Looking at the repulsive couple made me sick and I spat at him.
His smirk vanished as he wiped his face with disgust and then punched me ruthlessly.
Pain blurred my vision and I crumpled to the floor. Blood dripped from my skin that was cut by the glass shards.
Jill hurriedly stopped the man, her eyes complicated as she walked to me and pulled my eyelids.
“Don’t kill him,” she muttered. “It’ll be too messy to explain to the cops.“}]
She pulled up her phone and dialed nine–one–one. “Hallo, police station? We have a criminal here who provoked a brawl and injured our employee.“%
Hearing her words, I felt like I was falling into an ice cellar.
