Chapter 6
The day before my departure, the police unexpectedly called me. They informed me that the brawl case needed a final signature to close it and I had to go in person.
When he learned Jill and her gang would also be present there, Jeremy felt uneasy and accompanied me.
After signing the documents, the officer who had handled my case pulled me aside.N
“Miss Ackmand came the day after you were released with money for your bail in her hand,” he told me. “She told me to give you a message that she was here.”
“Is there some kind of misunderstanding between you two?” he asked.N
I couldn’t help but ask after I nodded and thanked him. “Is she alone?“N
The officer nodded. “Yes. Oh, and she asked you not to tell anyone about this.“N
I smiled bitterly and left without another word.
Wasn’t Jill just dying for me to be locked up and never come out? What was the point of her secretly bringing money to bail me out?N Does she want to keep lying to me? Does she think I’m the same lapdog who will do anything to her if she just gave me a crumb of affection?
Well, she was sorely mistaken.
My heart died a long time ago when she led the men to trample me that day.N
Jeremy shook his head and sighed. “You still haven’t told her the truth, have you? You did not tell her how her parents almost cost you your job by causing that scene at the hospital because they did not want to pay medical bills?“N
I shook my head. “What is the use? Telling her wouldn’t change anything. Do you hope she will stay with me to repay me? I don’t want her to stay out of guilt or obligation. I’d rather never see her again.“N
Jeremy did not say anything anymore.
On our way out of the police station, we ran into Jill. She was clinging to the arm of her new man. She also brought a few lackeys with her.
She looked at me disdainfully and rolled her eyes hard, “Well, well, look who’s out. You managed to find someone to bail you out, huh? I thought no one wanted to deal with a piece of trash like you.”
I did not want to deal with him anymore. Besides, I did not want anything to hinder my trip abroad tomorrow.
However, when I walked past her with an expressionless face, she grabbed my arms. “Hey! I’m talking to you, Maxwell! Are you deaf?“N The more I tried to get away, the harder she pulled my arm. As a result, my shirt tore because of her.
Finally, the buried anger that I had buried for so long exploded.N
I pointed at her nose and cursed, “Jill! The electronic divorce agreement was already sent a long time ago. Don’t think refusing to sign it will keep me tied to you and allow you to pester me. I’ve got proof of your infidelity. Did you call me a dog? Then what are you? The one who’s clinging to me and refusing to let go is you!N
“You have made me lose everything in these years by lying, whether it was my career, money, or dignity. What’s the difference between this with dying? Fine! If you push me one more time, it does not matter if I die once more time. At worst, I’ll drag you there with me!”
I followed Jeremy straight to the parking lot. Even when I got into the passenger side, I could still clearly see Jill looking at me motionlessly from the rearview mirror.
There was mixed emotion on her face. I wondered what it was. Was it lost? Sad? Or angry?
Jeremy came to pick me up early the next morning, he bought some food for me and packed it into my suitcase.
Then we had breakfast together and went straight to the airport. There we saw a familiar figure.N
It was Jill. She was holding a bag in her hand and she froze for a moment when she saw me, then quickly ran towards me.
“Maxwell, you haven’t eaten breakfast, right? I especially bought this for you.”
I glanced at the bag. There was a seafood sandwich and seafood pasta in it.
I pushed the bag lightly and replied flatly, “Take it away. I’ve eaten.”
Jill was in a rage and shoved the food in her hand into the trash. “Maxwell, why are you pretending? You should be happy I come here. Don’t you know I had to get up early this morning and queued for two hours to buy you breakfast? Two hours! Why are you so ungrateful?“N
I smirked coldly. “I’m allergic to seafood. You know, we’ve shared meals for years and you never noticed I had never eaten any, huh? Oh right, how could you possibly find out, didn’t you stay with me just to get back at me? Well, congratulations, you’ve won. Now leave me alone.“%
Jill suddenly rooted to the ground and her hands trembled. She suddenly sniffled and changed her expression, her tone softened, “I’m sorry, Maxwell. It was my oversight. Stay here. You’ll be lonely abroad and I’ll forget about the past.
She was so used to my pampering that her words were laced with the same arrogance she’d always used when ordering me around.
I met her gaze. I started my statement one word at a time, my tone was cold and stern, “Stop dreaming.“W
After that, I hugged Jeremy and he reminded me to take good care of myself.”
I took the ticket and visa and entered the boarding gate. Before reaching the gate, I could not help but look back.
However, neither Jill nor Jeremy was there.
