Chapter 48
I heard the unmistakable drip of liquid hitting the floor. Looking down, I saw a wet patch spreading under her seat.
Sylvia screamed, “Yolanda peed herself!“}
Xyla was already dialing for help, her hands shaking. Yolanda slipped off her chair, groaning and grabbing at her belly.
“Move her to the back!” I shouted and a couple classmates helped carry her to the open space at the rear of the lecture hall.§
She was lying there, blood starting to pool underneath her. Sylvia was in full–on panic mode, crying her eyes out. “What’s happening to her? Is she gonna die?“>
I couldn’t stop the smirk from creeping onto my face. “Yolanda… are you pregnant?“}
“Shut up! Of course not!” she snapped between gritted teeth. “Ahhh, it hurts!“}
I leaned down just a bit. “I mean… it really looks like your water broke. Maybe try pushing? Let’s see if the baby is ready.“}
Yolanda shot me a death glare. “I’m not pregnant!“}
“Our school is pretty far from the hospital. It’ll take at least an hour for the ambulance to get there. If you really are pregnant and don’t deliver in time, it could be fatal, for both you and the baby,” I said, trying to sound concerned.§
Yolanda shoved me, her face twisted in panic. “You’re the one talking nonsense! You just said you had stomach pain, how are you standing like nothing happened?“}
I gave her a casual shrug. “I feel fine now. Guess it was just gas or something.“}
She blinked at me, completely thrown off. “No way. That’s… that’s impossible.“>
Xyla stepped in, pulling Yolanda’s hand gently. “Girl, I told you weeks ago you might be pregnant, but you kept brushing it off. Now look at you. You can’t wait anymore. You need to push or you and the baby might not make it.“}
Yolanda looked like she wanted to disappear. She definitely didn’t want to give birth in a classroom, but her body clearly had other plans. Suddenly, she screamed and then, just like that, there was a gush of blood… and a baby. Everyone froze.§
Someone near the back shouted, “Holy crap, Yolanda just gave birth!“}
And as the baby started crying, Yolanda’s eyes rolled back and she passed out on the spot. It was chaos. The teacher looked completely freaked out and had no clue what to do. In the end, he ran off to call the principal.
By the time the ambulance arrived, Yolanda and the baby were already lying on the floor. The medics scooped them up and got them into the ambulance fast.
Since I was still considered her ‘closest friend‘ or whatever, I rode along with them to the hospital.
