Chapter 6
They tried to open the door, but when it wouldn’t budge, they reluctantly made their way to the front desk for help.
“Since it’s after midnight, we’ll require payment for a full day. The total amounts to $5,000. Please pay to receive your key card.“} I threw the bill down on the counter, indicating it was time for them to pay.”
Still furious, Sophie immediately turned hostile. “What’s it to you? You’re just a dirty cleaner. Why do you think you matter?”
I shot her a cold, unwavering look. “This hotel is my family’s. If you skip out on the bill, it’s my loss. Does that not concern you?”
With the hotel manager standing quietly behind me, Sophie’s face turned beet red, and she shouted, “Megan, do you have no heart? We’ve been through hell all night, and now you have the nerve to ask us for money?”
Unfazed, I nodded. “You have no shame for not paying, so why should I feel bad for asking for it?”
Seeing that she couldn’t argue with me, Sophie tried to turn Rachel and Whitney against me. “I told you we shouldn’t be friends with people like her! Heartless ingrate!“N
But Rachel and Whitney wouldn’t join her.
“Megan, you truly came to our rescue this time! Without your help, things could have taken a turn for the worse,” Rachel said.
Then, she placed her phone on the counter and added, “I don’t have enough cash, but I’d be happy to leave my phone as collateral. My family is going to send the money this afternoon, so I’ll pay you then.”
Whitney, with red eyes, also apologized. “Yeah, Rachel’s right. Thank you for helping us and I’m really sorry for being such a bitch. I promise to pay you right away. I swear on my life!”
Seeing Rachel and Whitney side with me, Sophie’s face twisted with fury, and she stormed off.”
After that incident, the entire summer went by without a word from Sophie.
Meanwhile, I became widely known for helping the police solve an international case.
The story spread like wildfire, and before I knew it, people came to visit our hotel.
Our business boomed, and we were completely booked for the second half of the year.
Seeing the surge of customers in our hotel, my parents were practically grinning from ear to ear, and we were quickly chipping away at the loans we’d accumulated. To capitalize on the newfound attention, I spent my days responding to questions online and promoting the hotel.
My social media following grew quickly.
But then, one day, I saw a series of messages trending on the hot search list.
[Tourists complain: Caught a skin disease at a famous influencer’s hot spring hotel!]
I clicked on it, and, of course, it was Sophie again.
Apparently, she had applied something irritating to her skin, and now her thighs were covered in large, angry red patches.
In the video, she tearfully accused the hotel.
She spread lies about the water quality at our hot spring, even implying that we were scamming customers.
The video quickly went viral, topping charts on multiple platforms. There were also paid commenters claiming they contracted gynecological diseases after visiting our hot spring.
But this time, Sophie didn’t have Rachel and Whitney’s backs. The two took to the comment section to explain the situation.]
They even posted videos to clarify the history between me and Sophie, setting the record straight.
Thank goodness I’d prepared for this.
‘I had already contacted a professional testing agency to check the water quality every single day. I posted the test results online, and they immediately sparked a wave of positive public opinion.
People praised our transparency and diligence. The hotel’s business didn’t just survive the scandal–it thrived. We experienced another surge in bookings.
Watching Sophie angrily post three videos filled with lies and slander, I couldn’t help but smile.
I sent her a private message:
[Thanks to you, I’ve gained this wave of wealth and success.]
She immediately flooded me with over ten voice messages, each lasting more than a minute, filled with nothing but nasty insults.
I wasn’t mad at all.
In fact, I quickly recorded the messages with a voice recorder.
Once the semester kicked off, I wished to steer clear of further drama.
Unfortunately, Sophie unexpectedly delivered it straight to my door.
