The jubilant expressions on my parents‘ faces vanished instantly. Julia, who had been glowing with pride just moments ago, looked like she had seen a ghost.
The neighbors quickly fell silent, their laughter dying as they exchanged uneasy glances, unsure of what was unfolding.
Julia hesitated for what felt like an eternity before cautiously stepping forward. Her voice wavered as she asked, “Are you really Mr. Kramer’s bodyguards? What do you want with me? Did Mr. Kramer send you a thank–you gift, or ?”
She trailed off mid–sentence, the growing impatience in the bodyguard’s expression making her voice falter. The panic in her eyes betrayed her feigned confidence.
The bodyguard smirked as though bal

The bodyguard smirked, as though he’d just heard the most absurd joke, and said coldly, “A thank–you gift? Oh, there’s definitely a ‘thank–you.‘ I heard Miss Julia was at the construction site delivering food to her father that day and just happened to witness the Kramer family’s child getting hurt? How convenient! Mr. Kramer has been grilling everyone on that site for three days. Today, we’re here to pick her up so she can properly settle the score with him.”
He leaned forward slightly, his tone sharp and mocking. “After he’s done thanking her, who knows if she’ll come back in one piece? Daring to pull a stunt like this against the Kramer family–she must have a death wish. But don’t worry, we’ll be happy to fulfill it for her.”
“Now be smart and hand her over, or you’ll face Mr. Kramer’s wrath. And trust me, you don’t want to see how ugly that can get.”
The color drained from my parents‘ faces as the bodyguard’s words sank in. My mother snapped, her voice rising with defiance, “What kind of nonsense are you spouting? My daughter is the savior of the Kramer family’s young master! Mr. Kramer would never harm her–he should be showering her with gratitude! Who are you? Some rival of the Kramer family is looking to stir up trouble?”
My father crossed his arms and added, “Don’t think you can just barge in here and make baseless accusations! If you can’t explain yourselves, I’ll call the police right now!”
He gestured at Julia’s phone. “For your information, Mr. Kramer has been in contact with my daughter directly. He even sent her expensive supplements as a token of appreciation! Do you have any idea who you’re dealing with? You’d better leave before Mr. Kramer himself gets here!”
Hearing this, the neighbors gained a surge of confidence.
“Exactly!” one neighbor chimed in. “You’re bold, pulling something like this in broad daylight! Do you even know who the Kramer family is? You must have a death wish!”
“Julia is the Kramer family’s savior! The whole town knows it–her house is filled with banners of gratitude!” another shouted. “Accusing her of nonsense like this? Be careful–we’ll testify against you for defamation!”
“We won’t let you touch Julia!” someone declared loudly, followed by cheers of agreement.
The neighbors swarmed closer, eager to align themselves with my parents. Many began asking for favors, urging my parents to put in a good word for them when they met Mr. Kramer.
Buoyed by the crowd’s support, my parents ignored the bodyguards entirely. My mother and father proudly nodded at the neighbors‘ words, promising to repay their kindness once Julia’s connection to the Kramer family secured their fortune.
Meanwhile, Julia cowered behind them, her face pale and her mouth clamped shut.
The lead bodyguard, however, had had enough. His voice boomed as he snarled, “I’ve never seen such delusional fools! Are you so blinded by greed that you don’t get it? We’re here on Mr. Kramer’s orders to take her in! Still daydreaming about gratitude? Wake up! Your little scheme has backfired–do you think you can harm the Kramer family’s only heir and walk away unscathed?”
He scoffed, his tone dripping with contempt. “You really believe those supplements were gifts? Did you ev bother to check what’s inside? Or are you as stupid as you seem?”
The tension in the room thickened as he barked, “Hand Julia over now and stop wasting my time. Mr. Kramer is waiting, and he won’t tolerate delays.”
Panic spread across my parents‘ faces as realization dawned. My mother stammered, “W–what do you mean, the supplements? Are you saying there’s something wrong with them?”
Without waiting for an answer, she dashed inside and returned with the box of “supplements” Albert had sent. My father ripped it open, his hands trembling.
Inside, instead of health products, lay a sleek, highly advanced eavesdropping device.

Their faces turned ashen. The neighbors, sensing trouble, began retreating, muttering nervously as they backed
away from the scene.
Amidst the growing silence, I couldn’t hold back a laugh. It was bitter and tinged with irony.
“I told you the Kramer family isn’t stupid,” I said, looking directly at my parents. “You played a dangerous game, and now it’s all coming to light. They’ve already made it clear–they only want Julia. Hand her over and pray it ends here. Or keep pushing and watch Mr. Kramer’s anger destroy everything you’ve built.”
