If he wanted to arrest me, why didn’t he have the bodyguards take me away earlier?
Did he leave me behind on purpose–to test if Julia and I were working together?
A storm of doubts churned in my mind, leaving me unsettled for the entire ride.
The car didn’t head to the construction site as I expected. Instead, it stopped in front of a hospital. The assistant escorted me to the door of the ward where Albert’s child was recovering. He bowed deeply before speaking.
“Albert asked me to thank you for saving his child’s life. He requested that you wait in the ward. He’ll be here
shortly.”

I didn’t understand what was going on and didn’t dare to respond hastily. I merely nodded in confusion and
reached for the door.
Just as I was about to enter, the assistant spoke softly.
“Ms. Alice, living with such principles in a family like yours must be incredibly difficult.” His tone was sincere. “If you ever need help, please don’t hesitate to ask. The Kramer family will support you.
Hearing this, I felt a bitter sense of irony.
In my past life, I had died with my eyes open, filled with regret.
He was right–it hadn’t been easy, and it had cost me dearly. I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at myself. Albert Kramer had discovered the truth despite everything, and now even his assistant spoke with admiration, which only deepened my confusion. I wanted to ask him directly what Albert’s intentions were, but he seemed cautious and unwilling to say more.
With no other choice, I entered the ward.
Thankfully, the child had been out of danger for three days and was recovering well. He could even speak again. When he saw me, his eyes lit up, and he waved excitedly.
“Sister, you’re here!”
I sat beside him, smiling and nodding, but then he leaned close and whispered in my ear, his voice small and
secretive:
“Don’t worry, I haven’t told anyone about what happened that day!”
“We made a promise, and I’ll keep it. I won’t tell anyone!”
I gently patted his head and asked about his injury–how it was healing and if it still hurt.
Children don’t lie.
He said it didn’t hurt, but his pale face and the cold sweat on his brow whenever he moved told a different story. I quickly stopped him from moving further, laying him back down gently. I adjusted the quilt to keep him warm and told him a story to help him relax.
The boy was so well–behaved. Exhausted by his injuries, he drifted off to sleep within minutes.
He was only five years old, yet he had already endured so much. I couldn’t help but wonder if this trauma would
leave lasting scars.
Looking at his peaceful face, regret welled up in me. I should’ve done more to stop Julia this time. If she had
tried to harm me, I could have run away.
A child shouldn’t have to bear the weight of adult resentment and conspiracies.
While I was lost in thought, the door opened, and Albert entered with a calm smile. Without a word, he tossed a stack of papers onto the table in front of me.
“Julia confessed everything,” he said smoothly. “Want to hear what she had to say?”
I shook my head, unsurprised.
མ་
What could she possibly say, except to twist the truth and smear my name? I didn’t need to hear her lies.
“Whatever she’s said, it doesn’t matter,” I replied flatly. “I’ll bear whatever consequences she wants to throw my way. But don’t lump me in with her–it’s disgusting.”
To my surprise, Albert didn’t get angry. Instead, his smile deepened, as if my reaction had been exactly what he
expected
He leaned back slightly, studying me before speaking.
“Last time, you saved my son’s life. What reward do you want? Just name it. I always repay kindness and settle
grievances fairly.”

I stared at IM IN Dispeler, my eyes wide.
“You’re not blaming me?” I asked cautiously.
O
“Why would I blame you?” His tone was calm. “Were you the one who planted the steel bars?”
I frowned, unsure where he was going with this.
“Of course not,” I replied.
“Then that’s all that matters,” he said, his gaze unwavering..
