Hearing Suzanne say that made my heart warm. I smiled at her, “Thank you.”
In that moment, I was absolutely certain I had found true happiness. My life now was filled with joy, while on Lilian’s side, everything was falling apart.
I had been curious about her pregnancy before, but later found out the child she carried was lost because Barry kicked her
Since I left, the hospital’s business plummeted and Barry got drunk again, this time, he actually hit Lilian. As a result, she miscarried. At first, Lilian couldn’t believe it and questioned him, “Barry, how could you do this to me? Didn’t you say you loved me the most? How can you abuse me like this?”
When Barry heard Lilian say this, he sneered, “Love you? I must’ve been crazy. You’re just an old woman, how dare you say that? You were my sister’s best friend, five years older than me! I only messed with you for fun. I seduced a married woman like you because you had money, how was I supposed to know you’d become a broke loser?“}]
He shouted, “Who else should I hit if not you? You bring nothing but misfortune!“N
Lilian broke down in tears, but the more she cried, the harder he hit. Eventually, she was sent to the ICU. I heard none of her family even. came to visit her. Her parents hated her deeply now.
They blamed her for the hospital’s downfall and had cut ties with her completely. Even at that point, Lilian still tried to contact me. But I was vacationing in Bali with Suzanne.§
On the first day of our trip, I proposed to Suzanne. I’d prepared a carefully planned proposal. Suzanne was moved to tears and said yes.
Now i was happier than I had ever been, with no energy or desire to deal with anything related to Lilian. The next time I heard about her was after I returned from Bali.

But after Barry admitted fault at the station, he went home and turned into a different person again.§ Two months later, Lilian finally snapped. Lilian was sentenced to life in prison. One of her friends later called me, asking me to visit her, “She’s already been punished. She’s practically disabled now. Lucas, please forgive her. Just visit her once in prison. Her only wish now is to see you one last time.“N
I still refused without hesitation, “I’ll never see her. Not ever. Tell her I’m getting married. And she should never disturb me again.“N After I hung up, I looked at Suzanne trying on her wedding dress, smiling. She turned around, beaming with happiness, “Honey, thank you for custom ordering this wedding dress all the way from overseas. I love it!”
Seeing her like this made my smile even wider, “As long as you love it. The custom–made rings from overseas are arriving tomorrow too, try them on and see if they fit. Oh right, I redesigned our wedding invitations yesterday. Take a look and let me know if we should add anything.”
I held Suzanne’s hand and we planned the wedding together.
The woman I loved most was right in front of me. The past and all its pain were long gone.
And I truly believed my future would be filled with endless happiness.
