I handed her the pen after speaking. For the first time, guilt flickered in Lilian’s eyes as she looked at me.
Her voice trembled slightly, “Lucas, I promise you… After I give birth to Barry’s child, I cut ties with him. Is that okay?“%
I gave a cold laugh, “No. Sign it.“%
Lilian still wanted to say something, but Barry suddenly burst into the room. The moment he saw the divorce papers, his eyes lit up.
He grabbed Lilian’s hand and handed her his phone, “Lilian, my mom’s so happy to hear you’re pregnant, she wants to see our marriage certificate! She’s got cancer too! She doesn’t have much time left… huhuhu…*%
Before Barry even finished, Lilian turned to look at me. This time, without hesitation, she signed the papers. She also signed my resignation letter.%
Then she looked at me and said, Lucas, let’s get divorced first. We can remarry later.” With that, she turned and left with Barry, without looking back.%%
Uscoffed and left the hospital with my things.%
When I arrived at the villa, I didn’t expect to run into Suzanne at the door again. She noticed the resignation letter and divorce agreement sticking out of my box.%
I gave her a bitter smile, “I’m divorced. I quit my job too.”%
Surprisingly, she didn’t look shocked. Instead, she smiled at me warmly, “Starting over isn’t always a bad thing.“%
Then she paused, as if remembering something, “Oh right, Smitheagle Group will be working closely with your family’s hospital in the future, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to collaborate, old classmate.”%
Her smile warmed me for some reason, so I said, “Yeah. Looking forward to working together.“%
That afternoon, I packed up and headed to my dad’s hospital.%
Once I arrived, my dad didn’t hide my identity. He introduced me openly, “This is Lucas, my son. He’ll be working here from now on.“Z To my surprise, none of the staff seemed bothered. They actually welcomed me warmly, “Lucas, the famous OB–GYN doctor! It’s an honor to have you. Even if you weren’t the director’s son, we’d still welcome you with open arms!“Z
“Yeah! With Lucas here, our hospital’s gonna be unstoppable!“%
Everything was going smoothly. But the next day, trouble came knocking.%
Because of my reputation, Lilian’s private hospital had made a name for itself in the medical community.
Now, she spread rumors saying I had poor ethics and was fired. She urged other hospitals not to hire me.2
As soon as the news broke, my former colleagues called me. They cursed her out on the phone, “Lilian is too much! You were her husband and she not only cheated on you, now she wants to ruin your career too? Doesn’t she realize her whole hospital stayed afloat because of you?”
“Now that you’re gone, Barry’s acting all smug. He knows nothing and is bossing the other doctors around. He’s even bragging he can fire anyone he wants!“%
I just chuckled at their words, “Don’t worry, I’m doing just fine. I never told you guys, my dad is the director of Cedar Heights Hospital. Now that I’m working here, nothing can touch me.”%
The moment they heard that, they laughed out loud and kept saying how satisfying that was.
