Chapter 10
Soon, it was time for gift exchange. One after another, expensive gifts were presented before Melody, satisfying her vanity.
When it was Alex’s turn, he deliberated before handing over Gabriella’s gift.
“This is from Gabriella. She says you must play it at your party. Check out her gift before mine.”
He opened the box. A tiny USB drive rested inside. He pulled it out and handed it to the maid to be played.
Melody did not protest. She was curious about Gabriella’s next move in this situation.
Head held high with a faint hint of disdain, she watched the screen in the middle of the hall lit up, attracting all the guests‘ attention.
As they waited patiently for the video to load, everyone including Melody was curious about the video that Gabriella wanted to play at the birthday party of Alex’s true love. Gabriella had clung to Alex for six years now.
Would the video be about the loving moments between Gabriella and Alex? There was no love lost between the two, though. Everyone in Tramont knew very well that the CEO of Palmer Group was in love with his adoptive sister; he and Gabriella were only in an arranged marriage.
Had Gabriella recorded her blessings for the couple? If so, the guests would smile just to be polite.
After the never–ending loading, a scene finally played on the huge screen. It looked like a scene from security footage.
“What’s that?”
“Looks like some security footage. What’s Gabriella doing with it?”
Just when the guests were murmuring, Melody’s face suddenly fell on stage.
Was this the footage from the day she accused Gabrialla of beating her up at the underground parking at the hospital?
At first, Alex did not recognize the footage as well, but soon, he saw Melody, Lucas, and Gabriella appearing on the screen at the same time.
The incident was fresh and recent. Alex and Lucas had wanted Gabriella to apologize to Melody for that incident. Both immediately recognized the familiar scene.
“Turn it off, right now!” Melody screeched and flung a wine glass at the screen.
“Wait a minute!”
The maids, shocked by their employer’s reaction, were about to turn off the recording, but Alex stopped them. He cast a puzzled glance at Melody, wondering why she was so agitated. Alex and Lucas had never doubted the truth behind the incident. In their eyes, Melody was too kind to frame others.
Therefore, they felt nothing but anger when they saw the footage. All they wanted was for Gabriella to apologize to Melody, but she was trying to make a scene in public. What good would that do for her?
Lucas, though confused, patiently comforted Melody, “Aunt Mel, don’t worry. Let her make a scene if that’s what she wants- crazy! Since she wants to play that footage, let her expose her meanness to everyone here!”
-she can’t ruin your birthday party just with that footage. She’s
Lucas ranted, unaware of the odd looks that crossed the faces of the guests, including Alex’s. It didn’t make sense for someone to risk their own reputation just to ruin a
birthday party.
As expected, after Alex and Lucas left one after another in the footage, only Melody and Gabriella remained in view. Their voices sounded a little distorted due to their distance from the security camera.
Still, Melody’s jarring voice hit the ears of all the guests.
“You’re pretty patient, aren’t you? Even after things turn out this way, you’re still clinging to Alex! Gabriella Robinson, if I were you, I would already admit defeat and get lost!”
