Chapter 14

Shannon turned her head in the direction of the voice

Standing before her was a fair man with neatlycropped hair and a strikingly handsome face. His bright eyes brought her back to the past

It was Jacob Graham

They had dated briefly back in university, but he moved to study abroad a few months after they started dating. Their longdistance relationship didn’t even last a week before they broke it off

Shannon didn’t expect the next time they met to be under such circumstances

She and Jacob walked side by side along the streets. They then went into a convenience store, sitting down to eat instant noodles together

Jacob glanced at Shannon’s side profile. He said, I can’t even tell if this is real or just a dream anymore.”

She merely smiled, and he continued, Remember back in college? We were broke and often came to convenience stores to eat instant noodles. I can’t believe we would still end up sitting together like this, even after all these years.”

Countless memories flooded Shannon’s mind upon hearing his words. She let out a quiet sigh, recalling how young she had been back then. It was before she had even met Thomas

Jacob tilted his head slightly and asked curiously, I heard from our coursemates that you got married. How was it? Are you happy now?”

Shannon’s fingers tightened around the cup, knuckles turning white. She frowned, recalling the way she had been treated in the Ford family for the past five years

She gritted her teeth and said, “I’m divorced now. Happiness is something I wouldn’t dare to hope for or maybe something I shouldn’t even think

about.”

Her mocking tone surprised Jacob, leaving him unable to respond

Shannon had completely changed in just a few years. The bright, cheerful woman he once knew had now become someone quieter, tinged with a hint of melancholy

Jacob didn’t know the details of her marriage, so he didn’t pry or offer opinions. Instead, he changed the subject and asked, By the way, are you here to travel?”

No, I’m actually working here. I’ve settled down. Look, my office is just in the building next door.Shannon pointed toward a nearby building. Jacob’s face lit up when he heard her words. Does that mean I can ask you out for meals more often now?”

Shannon looked back at him. He had changed a lot over the years and had become even more handsome now. However, what remained unchanged was his quiet confidence

She looked at his smiling face and replied, Of course.”

Shannon didn’t have many friends abroadin fact, she barely knew anyone. She was happy to share meals and talk to Jacob

After a brief talk, they exchanged contact numbers and bid each other goodbye

Upon returning home, Sharinon closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep

Shannon practically lived in her office for the next few days. Although she didn’t have a heavy workload and was just starting, she was eager to learn as much as she could

She was efficient at her work and never fussed over trivial matters. Her colleagues soon found her easy to get along with. Her boss, Tina Gladhill, praised her during their weekly meetings, encouraging everyone to learn from her example

Just like that, a busy and fulfilling month passed. Shannon gradually adapted to living overseas and settled into her office life. One sunny afternoon, Tina gleefully patted her shoulders and said, Congratulations, Shannon. Your piece made it to the finals!”
