Chapter 18
After concluding her business meeting, Shannon stepped out of the company, only to notice a conspicuous Maybach. Leaning against the car was none other than Thomas.
She was surprised. She hadn’t revealed to anyone that she was having a business meeting, yet he still managed to track her down here.
Upon noticing Shannon, Thomas quickly walked over. “Can we talk, Shannon?”
She ended up getting into his car. She felt that there were many things she truly needed to make clear to him.
While Thomas drove, he turned around to ask, “I heard that you’ve now started a publishing company, Shannon. Is that true?”
Shannon nodded indifferently, but he wasn’t upset about it. Instead, he continued, “Why didn’t I notice that you were interested in writing back then?”
She scoffed. “That’s because you didn’t care about me, so you weren’t willing to learn what I liked. Naturally, you wouldn’t know what my hobbies are.”
Thomas looked awkward after hearing it. Before he could continue further, they arrived at the cafe. They got out of the car and ordered some drinks.
After Shannon took a sip of her coffee, he said, “It’s been terrible for me and Chris for the past year without you, Shannon.”
She let out a cold laugh before replying, “On the contrary, things have been going good for me ever since I left you.”
Perplexed, Thomas asked, “Although we had our rough moments in the past five years, we also shared many beautiful memories. Do you really hate the past so much?

“Besides, we still have Chris, our adorable son. What’s wrong with staying together as a family now that you’re back?”
Shannon’s gaze was filled with disdain as she slowly looked at him. “That’s because you were the one benefiting from it–you naturally couldn’t feel my pain.”
During those five years, she was the one holding the household together. She cared for Thomas and Christopher, handling everything from cooking to cleaning.
Meanwhile, both of them simply enjoyed the comfort Shannon provided, never once offering her a word of appreciation.

As such, Thomas naturally found those five years a beautiful memory. But for her, it was nothing short of a nightmare she was unwilling to revisit. Memories flooded his mind as he recalled how he hadn’t truly done anything for Shannon even once. Worse still, he’d only hurt her over and over after Laura came back.
Thomas‘ eyes were filled with regret at that thought. He looked at Shannon and said, “I want to apologize again for everything in the past, Shannon. It wasn’t until you left that I realized how deeply your presence was woven into every part of my life. Chris and I cannot live without you–we need you.
“I was blind back then and couldn’t tell the difference between obsession and love. I no longer have anything to do with Laura now. I’ve already blacklisted her. If you’re willing to come back, I swear I’ll never break your heart again!”
Shannon couldn’t help but find it laughable when Thomas raised his hand and placed it over his heart.
It was a love too little, too late. Besides, his promise no longer held even a shred of credibility to her.
Shannon looked at Thomas and asked, “Would you still think of me if Laura weren’t someone like that?”
Although she knew the answer, she wanted to hear it directly from his mouth. He hesitated, pausing for a moment, yet unable to open his lips.
In that moment, Shannon understood everything. She scoffed and said, “You don’t have to answer–I already know what it is.”
Thomas was about to try and hold onto her again, but she stared at him and bit out, “I’m happy now, Thomas. I just want to cherish the life I have now. Besides, I’ve already moved on, and so should you. After all, those five years were nothing but an agreement, weren’t they?”
Shannon’s words struck deep in his heart.
Before Thomas could continue, he suddenly received a phone call. “Mr. Thomas, the teacher said someone had already taken Mr. Christopher away when I went to pick him up today!”
