Chapter 20
The police arrived right after Laura finished speaking. She was handcuffed and arrested by the police.
This time, she didn’t struggle, and her face looked pale and lifeless.
At that moment, Shannon nervously grabbed onto Thomas‘ arm. Her voice trembled as she said, “Hang on, Thomas. The ambulance is coming soon!”
He mustered his strength and struggled to say, “I’m sorry, Shannon. This is what I owe you in this lifetime–my karma.”
Thomas was sent to the emergency room ten minutes later. After several hours of urgent treatment, his heartbeat was restored.
Shannon postponed returning to Murica because of this. She remained in the hospital ward, taking care of him like she did back then.
The first person Thomas saw when he opened his eyes was her.
After feeding him water, Shannon asked about his condition. However, he stared at her wordlessly, tears streaming down his cheeks and onto the white pillow.
He looked at her and choked out, “It’s been a long time since we’ve sat together this calmly, Shannon.”
Shannon said nothing after hearing it. She then got up to get the doctor.
Thomas stared at her back and shouted, “Thank you! From now on, I won’t bother you anymore.”
His voice was hoarse, tinged with a hint of choked emotions.
Shannon halted her steps, but she didn’t glance back. She then went to call for the doctor.
She decided not to return to the hospital ward. Instead, she headed back to the hotel to pack up for her return. Now that Thomas was awake, she had no reason to remain in the ward.
As Shannon walked out of the hospital, she bumped into Christopher, who had just finished classes and was brought over by Andy.
She was about to ignore him and walk away. However, Christopher had a sinking feeling in his heart and knew that she was about to leave. He’d never see her again.
As such, Christopher waved a hand at her tearily. “Goodbye, Mommy!”
Shannon let out a quiet sigh and waved back at him–he had been under her care for five years, after all. Although she couldn’t bring herself to forgive him, she felt that this final goodbye deserved a response.
The sunlight cast a warm glow on her back as she left. She turned around to take one last look, silently bidding goodbyes to her five years of marriage and everything else.
Shannon then called a cab back to the hotel.
Jacob looked at her and asked worriedly, “Are you okay? Honestly, you’re divorced,
Shannon simply replied, “It’s fine. This’ll be the last time, anyway.”
so why involve yourself in that mess again?”
Jacob didn’t press further. Once they packed their suitcases, they called a cab to the airport.
They finally landed back in Murica after a long flight.

Shannon threw herself into work again as soon as she returned to her office. However, she felt fulfilled–at least she was doing something she loved and chasing her own goals right now.
A month later, while Shannon was handling affairs back in her office, she received news from home that Laura was sentenced to a full 11 years. This meant she would have to spend the rest of her life behind bars. Her entire future was essentially ruined.
Shannon merely sighed, feeling no sympathy for her. This was what Laura deserved anyway.
Another year passed, and she got together with Jacob. Their decision to be together was made after careful consideration and tested over two years.
They understood each other’s thoughts and appreciated the hardships they’d each endured. It felt like they were soulmates.
Five years passed, and Shannon and Jacob now had a four–year–old daughter named Jade Graham. She was adorable and thoughtful, and her affection filled Shannon with constant joy.
Due to Jade’s schooling matters, they had to return to their home country to take care of the necessary procedures.
Once Shannon was done handling the procedures, she sat down for a meal with Maya and her family. They chatted about the country’s development and marvelled at how time had flown by.
Just as she was eating, she suddenly looked up at the restaurant, finding it familiar.
Shannon then recalled that this was a restaurant belonging to the Ford family, but why did it have a different name now?
Maya was surprised when she questioned her about it. “Didn’t you know?”
