Chapter 15 Getting Hurt By Family

“Bradley, Emery didn’t mean it. She probably just hates me,” Winona said in a trembling voice, her eyes slightly reddening.
“Winona, don’t mind her. She’s like a rock in a cesspit–stubborn and foul–mouthed…”
Emery, who had just reached the top of the stairs, paused mid–step.
She took a deep breath, ultimately opting for silence.
Explaining would be pointless.
“Bradley, Emery didn’t do it on purpose. She probably just doesn’t like me.” Winona said, her voice trembling slightly as her. eyes turned red.
“Winona, you’re just too kind… Bradley muttered between bites.
“Shut up! Can’t even eat without running your mouth?” Nicholas glared at his younger brother, thoroughly disgusted.
In his eyes, his younger brother was utterly useless–always idling around, ignoring company affairs, indulging in food and entertainment. Right now, he looked no better than a gossiping housewife.
Bradley, chastised by his older brother, reluctantly closed his mouth and focused on his meal.
Upstairs in her room, Emery freshened up, applied a bit of makeup, and changed into an elegant long–sleeved dress. Grabbing her car keys, she prepared to head out and find something to eat.
After all, she hadn’t eaten all day, and she was starving.
By the time she reached the ground floor, the Langford family was still seated at the dining table. They had yet to finish their meal.
She turned slightly toward Gary and Eleanor and said softly, “I’m heading out for a bit.”
“Gary, look at her! Does this seem right to you? She hasn’t called us and Dad even once since she came back!” Eleanor complained, full of resentment.
Just let her be.” Gary sighed in resignation.
Seeing this, Emery said nothing more and left swiftly.
She drove off in the Porsche her new boyfriend had gifted her yesterday, dialing Annie’s number as she sped down the road..
“Annie, want to grab a bite?”
“Emery, you’re out? Of course, I’ll come with you! Let’s go for barbecue–there’s a new place downtown I’ve been dying to
“Sounds good!”
After a brief exchange, Emery hung up and pressed her foot down on the accelerator, racing toward the city center.
Half an hour later, they met up at Smoky Joy Barbecue.
The moment they saw each other, they shared a warm hug Annie looked Emery over carefully and asked with concern. “Emery, you don’t look so great. Did something happen at home?”
Emery gave a faint smile, shook her head, and said, “It’s nothing. Let’s not talk about it. Come on, let s see if this place is an good

As Annie set up the utensils, she enthusiastically shared funny stories from recent days, hoping to cheer Emery up
Emery listened quietly, a small smile gradually appearing on her face.
Just then, her phone rang.
She picked up her phone and saw that it was a call from Winona.
Frowning slightly, she hesitated before picking up.
“Emery, where did you go? Everyone’s really worried about you.”
Finished
The voice of Winona came through from the other end of the phone, sounding as though she was genuinely concerned.
“I’m out with a friend. What’s the matter?” Emery asked flatly
“Please don’t be mad, Emery. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have made you upset,” Winona said, her voice choked with emotion.
Annoyance rose in Emery’s heart. She knew Winona was putting on an act, playing the innocent victim so the family would pity her.
“Im not mad. That’s all. I’m eating now.”
With that, she ended the call
Annie looked at her. “That was your family, wasn’t it? Are they bothering you agai
again!”
Emery sighed. “It’s my dear little sister, pretending to be sweet and innocent. I can’t be bothered with her.”
Annie grabbed Emery’s hand. “Then don’t. The more you engage with people like her, the more they push their luck. Let’s just enjoy our food.”
As the barbecue was served, the two of them eagerly dug in.
With each bite of the delicious meat, Emery’s mood lightened.
They chanted as they ate, reminiscing about the past and dreaming about the future.
For a while. Emery managed to forget the troubles and pain her family had caused her.
After dinner, they wandered around the mall, buying some snacks,
ks just in case she went hungry again at the Langford
residence.
By the time Emery returned home, it was already late.
She stepped inside and saw the family gathered in the living room.
Eleanor immediately snapped, “Oh, so you still remember how to come home? A girl staying out idea what that looks like?
late–do you have any
Emery ignored her and headed straight upstairs
Bradley called after her, “Emery, do you have any manners at
Ts at all?”
she stopped in her tracks, turning to face him with an icy gaze “My life is none of your business. And don’t pretend like you
getting more and more mut of control. Two years unide and you’ve learned nothing. You should’ve stayed binger” Bradley spat, its voice full of contempt.

She swallowed her pain and met his eyes coldly. “Sorry to disappoint you.”
Then, without another word, she turned and walked away, leaving the family staring at one another in silence.
Back in her r
room, she could no longer hold back her tears.
The Barbie doll Bradley had bought her for her tenth birthday still sat on a shelf.
Pictures of her and her two brothers still adorned the wall. In these photos, her smile was brilliantly radiant.

Once upon a time, she had two brothers who shielded her, unable to bear the thought of her getting hurt. If she so much as scraped her skin, they would become unbearably anxious.
Now, no matter how much she suffered, no matter how many wounds she bore, they turned a blind eye.
No matter what she said, they would never believe her. To them, Winona was their only sister.
She was nothing more than an outsider in this house.
Fine, one more week. I’ll stay long enough to say goodbye to my past self
Picking up her phone, she sent Joshua a message: Moving in at severk,
He replied almost instantly: Got it.
Emery changed into her loungewear, then opened her laptop to continue writing.
The moment she logged in, she saw tens of thousands of comments.
Do families like this really exist? The female protagonist’s life is tragic!
She should just cut ties with them! Author, please give her a happy ending!

Emery smiled slightly. Over the past two days, she had woven leg real–life experiences into her story, and the response had been incredible
