I narrowed my eyes.
“Nelson,” I said sharply, “if you didn’t want things to end like this, maybe you should’ve acted like a decent human being. But since you didn’t, I owe you nothing–not even your pride.“>
Then I turned to the host and held out a flash drive.
“This,” I said calmly, “is why I left Nelson. I’d appreciate it if you could play it for everyone watching.“}
The host looked at me, surprised, then nodded and took the drive. The footage flickered onto the large screen behind us.
The audience gasped.}
There was Dorothy sitting across from Nelson in what looked like their living room.}
“She’s having a girl,” she snapped. “What a waste. Can’t even give us a son.“>
“Son,” she said with a conspiratorial tone, “didn’t you two sign a prenup? If she dies during childbirth, would you inherit everything?“}
“You know women die giving birth all the time. You understand that, right?“}
The video cut to another clip–this one outside City Hall.
Dorothy was standing proudly with Shelly, arms wrapped around her like a prized possession.}
“Shelly’s baby is my son’s. He’s the first grandson of the Reeds,” she sneered. “We’re not keeping that jinx around.”}
