Chapter 34
Preston didn’t notice the two holes in Regina’s coat until that moment.
He put his hands through her arms and bent down to pick her up.
Roy acted at the same time, bending down to pick up her legs.
Both their hands passed behind her knees at the same time.
They looked at each other, stunned.
They each held one of her legs, and neither was about to give in. On the contrary, they were set to have both of her legs.
Steve felt a bit speechless for a second and then said, “If you can’t hold her, let me take her.”
Then he was about to pick up Regina.
The expressions of Roy and Preston changed. They dodged Steve quickly and picked up Regina.
Avoiding each other’s hands, they ran into the hospital like two crabs.
Everyone present was dumbfounded.
The nurses at the desk rubbed their eyes, jaws dropping as the two hauled Regina into the ER.
When the doctors saw her gunshot wounds, they rushed her to the operating room.
The others could only wait outside.
Steve shot a look at Roy and Preston. “You two spent so much time yapping at her–didn’t you see she was hurt?”
Once Regina was in the operating room, Preston collapsed into a chair, drained.
“She was covered in blue blood,” he muttered, bummed out. “I asked her what was up, and she brushed it off. I had no clue she was shot.”
The more he thought about it, the more it got to him. “She was fighting like a maniac even with those injuries. What’s wrong with her? Doesn’t she feel pain or something?”
Roy leaned against the wall and huffed. “We were distracted because Mr. Mitchell was too busy chewing her out.”
He threw a sarcastic glance at Hugh. “She’d just finished taking down those thugs, and he jumped down her throat–no chance for her to even say a word.”
Hugh pulled a long face.
Preston, egged on by Roy, turned and glared at Hugh too. “He’s right! Regina got hurt protecting you, and you’ve got the nerve to yell at her? How could you?”
Hugh was utterly pissed off “Because…”
Adrian cut him off. “Roy, Preston, chill. Mr. Mitchell’s older than you guys. Even if you’re right, you can’t just talk to him like that.”
Hugh was speechless.
Jessica snorted, “Indeed. Not everyone has a conscience like us. Regina made it clear earlier. She protected us because she wanted a cut from our orders. We will fulfill her wish. After all, we aren’t ungrateful jerks.”
Denton picked up his phone. “Of course, Jessica. I’ll call Scarlett and place an order now.”
Hugh was choked on their words and looked at the others.
To his disappointment, the others all looked away disapprovingly and picked up their phones; it seemed they were all reaching out to Scarlett.
He was so angry that he sat back down on the couch and stopped talking
Meanwhile, Scarlett was in a meeting. She heard her phone buzz and picked it up.
Then she saw a couple of messages.

Chapter 34
Denton texted: [Regina saved Jessica and me today, so I’m placing an order. No clue what I need yet, but here’s the cash upfront. Make sure Regina gets her cut.]
Scarlett was confused.
Meanwhile, Adrian texted: [I’m asking Regina to fulfill my order. Remember to reserve her time for me.]
Scarlett was even more confused.
Soon, she received similar texts from other parents.
More texts rolled in from the other parents, all saying the same thing–they wanted Regina on their payroll.
To be more exact, they wanted Regina to be their mercenary. She’d be there when the family needed her to do their job.
