Chapter 35
Basically, they were turning her into their go–to hired muscle, booking her for vague gigs and sending Scarlett the money now.
Scarlett was dumbfounded, thinking. ‘Regina has just got here, and she’s already won over the seven big families? They’re hard nuts to crack!” Shocked, she called Regina.
Steve had Regina’s phone, and it started to ring.
He picked up the call. “Ms. Sherman.”
Scarlett was about to ask Regina when she heard Steve’s voice. “Steve? Why are you on Regina’s phone?”
He looked around at the crowd and walked to a quiet place. “She’s been shot and is in the ER now.”
Scarlett was stupefied. “What?”
Steve sounded down as he explained, “We were in a meeting, and she got into a fight outside the hospital. That’s not all–Hugh chewed her out and even slapped her.”
Scarlett’s face darkened, her eyes flashing with fury. “Tell me exactly what went down.”
An hour later, she stormed out of her floating car and marched into Blackthorn Hospital like a tornado.
She moved fast, radiating a vibe so intense that anyone nearby scooted out of her way, too spooked to even think about crossing her.
She went straight to the emergency room and looked around, her gaze falling on Hugh.
He was slouched on a couch, and just as he looked up at the figure stomping toward him, a hand cracked across his face–loud and sharp. Scarlett didn’t hold back. “Who the hell do you think you are, slapping my daughter, Hugh?!”
Hugh reacted and was furious. He stood up, wanting to slap her back.
Yet she grabbed him by the neck and threw him against the wall.
He fell to the floor and vomited.
Stunned, Clive and Brad ran toward him. “Dad!”
Feeling dizzy, he glared at Scarlett, gritting his teeth.
Scarlet: shoved the boys aside and landed a brutal kick, making him howl in pain.
Clive and Brad freaked out, grabbing her arms. “Auntie Scarlett, stop! Dad doesn’t have combat cyberware–he can’t take this! You’ll kill him!”
She broke free in anger. “So be it!”
Then she kicked Hugh again. “Regina put herself on the line for everyone, and you blamed her? You’re a spineless piece of trash!”
Hugh couldn’t fight back–he just curled up in the corner, clutching his head.
Adrian and Denton jumped in, pulling Scarlett back. “Enough, Scarlett! He’s your brother–in–law, cool it!”
Jessica chimed in, “Yeah, chill out. No matter how mad you are, he’s Irene’s husband. They’re Regina’s parents, remember? You don’t want to hurt them too badly.”
Upon hearing Irene’s name, Scarlett finally calmed down a bit and stopped trying to beat Hugh again.
Adrian and Denton breathed a sigh of relief and let go of her.
She turned around to leave. Suddenly, sl:e came back and kicked Hugh again.
Hugh was in so much pain that he couldn’t utter a word.
Just then, the light above the ER door went out.
The doctor walked out.

Chapter 35
Scarlett walked over anxiously. “How’s Regina?
The doctor gave a nod. “She’s stable now. Needs a few days of solid rest, though–no implant until she’s fully healed:
Scarlett was relieved.
Meanwhile, the nurses pushed Regina out.
Seeing this, Scarlett came over at once.
Regina was on a life–support machine, and her face was ghastly pale.
She looked just like the day at the funeral.
Scarlett’s nose twitched, and she held Regina’s hand; then she saw someone else holding Regina’s other hand.
She looked up, startled.
With red eyes, Preston grabbed Regina’s other hand. His eyes were filled with guilt. “Regina…
Even his knuckles turned pale, which was enough to show how upset he was.
The corner of Denton’s mouth twitched as he walked toward Preston. “Preston, ease up. Her mom is here.” Ignoring his words, Preston grabbed Regina’s hand in a daze. “It’s all my fault.”
