Chapter 47
Brad paced around the lounge, absolutely furious.
Regina was driving him up the wall.
He was about to lose it!
He yelled. “Melinda’s been the good kid in our family since day one. She does everything I say. She even cooks for me. She’s basically an angel!”
Xavier raised an eyebrow.
“An angel?” he repeated, yet voice dripping with sarcasm.
He glanced at Brad pacing back and forth, his tone laced with sarcasm. “That’s strange. How come I’ve seen your angel bullying others more than once? Is her kindness something only visible to you?”
Brad ignored him and pointed angrily toward the other room. “That Regina! She’s looked down on me ever since we first met. Not only that, but she also loves throwing shade at me.”
Just moments ago, Regina had made him so mad he stormed off. There was no way he could keep talking to her.
If someone said he left out of humiliation, he wouldn’t deny it.
Compared to Regina, he really was a wimp physically, but come on, she didn’t have to keep rubbing it in his face.
Preston, arms crossed, watched Brad lose his cool with an air of elegance. “If I had been reborn and had issues with you before, I wouldn’t treat you any better after being reborn. Isn’t that just common sense?”
Brad couldn’t take it anymore and ruffled his hair in frustration. “Preston, are you a child? Do you seriously believe in this reborn nonsense?” “Why wouldn’t I?” Preston blinked innocently. “If you really want to know if Regina’s reborn, just ask your mom.”
Brad huffed, “Fine! I’ll ask. Right now!”
Brad grabbed his phone without hesitation and dialed Scarlett’s number. “I’ll prove to you all that Regina is spouting nonsense because her Humanity is too low. Nothing she says is true.”
After two beeps, the call connected.
Brad got straight to the point, “Mom, tell me honestly. Are you reborn?”
There was silence on the other end of the line.
Everyone held their breath, listening intently.
Preston, sitting properly in his chair, rested his head lazily on the backrest, his expression eager for the answer.
Brad grew even more annoyed at Preston’s look and pressed on. “Say something, Mom! Are you reborn or not?”
Still, there was silence,
Brad calmed down slightly, sensing something was off. “Mom?”
Finally, a very soft sob came through. “It’s me, Melinda.”
Brad froze. “Melinda? Why are you answering the phone? Where’s Mom?”
Melinda started off sniffling but quickly broke into full–blown sobs. “Mom was attacked. When I got to her place, her door was ajar. I went in and found her covered in stab wounds, blood everywhere!”
Brad’s mind went blank.
A deafening buzz was echoing in his ears.
He stood frozen, his thoughts a chaotic mess, unable to form a single word.
Soon, Irene was rushed to the ICU at Blackthorn Hospital.

Chapter 47
Scarlett paced anxiously outside the ICU, like a cat on a hot tin roof.
She spoke to the police, desperate for answers. “My sister’s neighborhood has the best security in town. There are even guards outside her apartment door. How could she have been attacked?”
The officer tried to calm her down. “Ma’am, please calm down. We checked the footage–these guys were pros. They knew her routine inside out, like someone hired them and fed them all the details.
“They took out her two guards without a sound and even had her door code ready to go.”
The officer showed Scarlett the video on a tablet. “It’s clear someone close to her provided them with the information.”
Scarlett grabbed it and stared at the screen.
The attackers strolled up, checked the code on their phones, and punched it in.
Ten minutes after the attackers left, Melinda walked in with a handful of gifts.
Five minutes later, Melinda called the police and an ambulance.
Scarlett’s face darkened. “Someone gave them her code!”
The officer nodded. “Exactly. Think hard–who’d know it?”
Without hesitation, Scarlett replied, “Just me, her husband, and her three kids. It’s a new apartment, new lock.”
The cop frowned. “That shouldn’t add up. Could she have told a friend you didn’t know about?”
Hugh shot that down fast. “No way! My wife’s paranoid about privacy. Nobody outside us has it.”
Scarlett nodded repeatedly. “That’s right.”
Standing next to Scarlett, Regina surveyed the surroundings.
Brad and Clive sat by the ICU doors, gripping their heads in grief, helplessness written all over their faces.
Melinda was sitting beside her brothers, appearing dazed and terrified.
Her clothes were stained with blood–likely from holding Irene.
But what caught Regina’s eye were the tiny blood drops on her shoulder, splashed upward.
That pattern didn’t lie-
It screamed a knife swinging.
Regina’s eyes darkened. “I know who sent them.”
The officers turned to her in confusion.
Scarlett and Hugh also looked at her in shock.
Raising her hand, Regina pointed directly at Melinda.
“It was her,” she said, calmly.
