Return of the Forsaken 56

Chapter 56

The moon was parked high in the sky, spilling pale light over the rooftopthe only open spot they had to work with

Clive shot a look back at Regina, his eyes set but his voice a little shaky. Sorry, I was, uh, doing homework in the hallway and didn’t catch that you’d

been nabbed.”

Regina quirked an eyebrow

He called crying doing homework. She almost laughed

A quick flash of guilt zipped through Clive’s eyes before he turned to face the guy in front of them. Let me handle this. I’ll keep you safe.”

Victor’s face twisted into a scowl. Without missing a beat, he fired up his thermal blade and charged like a mantis

Clive swiftly scooped Regina into his arms and leaped towards the rooftop of the adjacent building

He reassured her. Don’t worry, I have reinforced tendons. I can jump really far. I’ll find you a safe place first!”

Clive navigated the rooftops of the towering skyscrapers, thirty stories above the ground

sense of weightlessness washed over Regina

Clive had braced himself for her screams, but Regina remained surprisingly calm

He glanced down at her

Regina nestled comfortably in his arms, as relaxed as a lazy cat. Her bangs fluttered in the wind, revealing a faded scar on her forehead

Clive’s eyes darkened, his brow furrowing slightly

Regina pointed to a chair on the rooftop. Go there.”

Without a word, Clive jumped to the chair with her. Do you think this is a good place to fight?”

Regina responded, It’s a good place for me to sit and watch the show.”

Clive was taken aback

Regina suddenly slapped him across the face

Clive was stunned

His head was knocked sideways, narrowly avoiding the thermal blade that had been aimed at his head

Clive stared at Regina in disbelief

She had slapped him to make him dodge the blade.”

ButShe could’ve been gentle, shoving him away

Yet, she chose to slap him

Clive quickly distanced himself, whipping out a glowing red thermal whip from his wrist. He flicked it at Victor

Regina watched with interest, resting her chin in her hand

Clive used a thermal whip, which was a perfect counter to the thermal blade

The thermal blade was a modified arm with a blade that could naturally extend, concealed within the forearm

The blade was incredibly sharp. The twin blades could effortlessly pierce an enemy’s chest, making it extremely lethal

The thermal whip, though? That was slicker. Tucked away in the forearm, it was subtle but badassa longrange weapon that could strike from a distance

Compared to the blade’s straightup brutality, the whip was smoother, fancier, and took real skill to handle

The trick to beating a thermal blade guy was simple: don’t let them get close

Chapter 36

But anyone rocking a thermal blade probably had their skeleton juiced up with an acceleration cyberware too, letting them move lightningfast

The big question was whether Clive could keep up

Regina eyed him from her perch, curious about how he’d handle it

Clive could sense Regina watching him from the corner of his eye

For some reason, he felt more nervous than usual during a fight

He had already lost to Regina earlier that day, and she had even stepped on his face

In her mind, he was probably just a lame excuse for a brother

That was why he took the fight on himself

If he took this guy down, he thought, maybe things would change for a bit

Clive hopped onto a platform, darting behind Victor. He snapped the red whip around Victor’s neck lightningfast, yanking it tight before the guy could even blink

He glanced at Regina, seeking approval

She just lounged there, smirking like a cat stretching out, clearly entertained

She hadn’t expected her useless brother to be so capable against others, even if he didn’t stand a chance against her

Regina’s eyes held a hint of mockery
