Chapter 78
The head nurse smirked slightly before she left. Till just say you’re busy”
Regina lay on the bed, her gaze blankly shifting to Stephen as the nurse walked away,
Stephen’s cold gaze followed the nurse as she left before softening.
He leaned in, brushing Regina’s cheek with his warm hand. “Barring any surprises, you’ll be discharged tonight.”
His touch was steady and calming
Regina, dazed, allowed it without a word.
Preston, standing nearby, raised a brow. “No recovery needed?”
Stephen nodded. “As long as the injuries are treated correctly, recovery isn’t necessary. Just keep up with the anti–rejection meds. It might feel uncomfortable for a few days, but I adjust the dosage. Hold off on prosthetics for now.”
Roy jotted it down quickly. “Understood
The others exchanged also silently nodded in agreement.
Steve frowned. “Why didn’t the doctor suggest replacing her prosthetic earlier? And why even insist it’s better not to change it?”
Stephen replied calmly. “He meant the combat prosthetic, not the life–saving one. No matter how advanced, mechanical parts can’t compare to the natural”
Julian approached the bed, “The mechanical is indeed no match. But as long as she’s alive, that’s what matters.”
Leaning casually, he continued, “Regina, if you’re ever looking for work, join the Mechanical Riot Squad. I’ll make you captain and hand over my position myself.”
Regina blinked, puzzled.
Julian’s tone softened when recalling her bloodied state. “I shouldn’t have claimed I was stronger than you. You’re tougher than I’ll ever be.”
His gaze darkened, his voice low. “If it were me, I doubt I’d have held up as well as you.”
Regina’s confusion grew as her eyes shifted between them.
When she didn’t respond, they assumed the anesthesia hadn’t worn off yet and avoided pressing her, turning instead to discuss her recovery. Regina lay quietly, watching them.
Liam noticed her pale face, “Are you ferling uncomfortabler
The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Regina.
The synchronized movements made Regina feel as if she were living in a strange yet perfectly safe bubble
Outside that bubble stood a team of guards, each strikingly skilled and remarkably good–looking-
Preston stepped forward, his voice tinged with worry. “Are you feeling uncomfortable? Where does it hurt?
Stephen glanced at the monitor by her bed. “Your vital look good, and the surgery went well: What’s wrong!“
Regina’s voice was hoarse his steady. “I just don’t get is. Why are you all treating the so kindly? Do you want money? Or is this some sort of “exchange?”
The group stunned
Exchanger
Preston frowned, half–amused, half–exasperated, “Isn’t it normal to care for someone sick? Or did your family handle it differently before!” Regina’s expression darkened. They left me in a trash bin by the roadside ”
The mom grew coller. No one said a word.

The group immediately scrambled to take care of Regina
Preston tucked her in, while Roy nearly shoved the hospital bed in his rush.
Xavier picked up his shattered phone, earnestly suggesting, “Do you want to smash your phone too? It might help you vent. Why not now?”
Steve transferred three hundred thousand dollars to her account with a cold expression. Congrats on surviving. Consider this your initial reward for staying alive,”
Stephen gripped her hand. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle all your prosthetics from now on, free of charge. I’ll be your personal doctor.”
Liam, expressionless, glanced at his phone. “You like gems, right? Let’s get that sorted immediately
Julian frowned. “Let’s exchange numbers. Call me if you need help. Even I’m not available, my team’s on standby
Regina looked at their serious faces and burst into laughter.
The group froze.
Her dimples deepened, her eyes glinging with amusement. “You’re all so adorable.”
They were stunned by her praise.
Regina tilted her head, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. “Is everyone in your circle this adorable, or is it just you guys*
Their hearts skipped a beat. Eyes wide, they stared at her, utterly stunned and at a loss for words
Regina chuckled softly, her smile deepening. “You’ve all been so kind to me. I’ll make sure to repay you.”
She
straightened up slightly and reached out, gently brushing a speck of blood from Preston’s blond hair.
Preston shocked by her action.
Presion, thank you for waking me up when I needed it most,” she said earnestly.
The others paused, frowning as they glanced at Preston.
Preston’s face flushed crimson, and he stammered, “1-1 didn’t do anything…
Regina turned to address the rest of them. “And thank you all for your help. I’ll never forget your kindness, and I won’t let your time be wasted on
‘Ding
[Regina Mitchell’s Humanity +1
The group looked pleased, though faintly disappointed.
“Only one point?
If this had happened earlier, it should’ve gone up by at least three points.
But given her current condition, it’s good that it went
it went up at all”
As they pondered, Brad and Clive suddenly rushed out of the elevator. “Has Regina escaped the critical stage?”
Clive, leaning weakly on Brad, insisted, “I have something important to say to Regina!”
Regina’s expression starkened as she turned toward the commotion
Preston suddenly dangd in front of the Mitchell brothers, blocking her line of sight!
Regina quietly observed him.
Preston hastily pushed the two men back into the elevator, grumbling. “Every time she sees you, her Humanity vanish! She just earned some, and now they’re gone again. Move it! Get out of heret
Brad and Clive exchanged confused looks, their expressions mirroring the same bewilderment.
The two were unceremoniously shoved into the elevator and sent away.

With the elevator doors closing behind them, Preston sighed in relief and turned back toward Regina
Regina now sitting upright on the hospital bed, glanced at Preston. Her eyes sparkled with appreciation, a faint smile lingering on her lips.
Preston hesitated, his heart pounding in his chest. Avoiding her gaze, he muttered. I heard Ms. Sullivan is abroad now. You’re living alone, aren’t you!”
Regina blinked, then nodded. “Yes.”
Preston’s cars flushed red as he nervously looked at his shoes. I’ve got
tot a separate villa, it’s spacious. How about staying at my place for a while? I’ll help you out and teach you anything you’re unsure of”
The others froze in collective disbelief.
Without hesitation, Regina replied, “Sure.”
And others‘ expressions immediately teetering between shock and incredulity.
