He had tried everything to contact me calling our mutual friends, sending countless emails, even showing up at my
old addresses. But I had vanished without a
trace.
Months had passed since that fateful day, and I had already moved on, living comfortably in Evercrest, a country on the other side of the globe.
The ninth step was ghosting him, which I had done perfectly so far. And the tenth, the most important one, was just to keep living my life happily. People always say the best revenge is living well, and honestly, I couldn’t agree more.
I didn’t just come here to get away from him–I came to expand my business. It was something I had planned long before the wedding, and I had wanted to surprise him with it as a gift after we got married, but everything fell apart.

Now, though, the expansion was going great. Sales were booming, and our new office was finally ready after months of planning and construction. It really felt like a fresh start in every way.
That day, we were moving things into the new office, and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and energy.
Boxes stacked high, employees darting in and out, discussing plans for the new space. I had barely a moment to breathe as I helped coordinate the move. But then, amidst the flurry of activity, I saw something–or rather, someone–that stopped me dead in my tracks.
There he was. Paul.
Standing in front of the door like a ghost from my past, his figure thinner, his clothes wrinkled, and his face worn down with desperation.
For a moment, I was dumbfounded. How had he even found me here? But I didn’t

This day was supposed to mark a new chapter in my life, and the last thing I needed was drama from the one person I had worked so hard to escape.
I walked over to him, motioning for him to follow me to a quiet corner of the office, away from the busy staff.
My mind raced as I tried to remain calm, but inside, anger and annoyance
simmered. Paul, on the other hand, looked like a total mess.
“I didn’t expect you here,” I said curtly, crossing my arms.
He let out a shaky breath, almost as if relieved to finally see me.
“One of your friends… she told me where you were,” he admitted, his voice hoarse. “I
begged her, Ruby. I cried, and she told me you were here.”

I rolled my eyes. That sounded about right -he had always been good at playing the victim when things didn’t go his way. I
kept my face neutral, refusing to show any reaction.
“I borrowed a lot of money just to get here,” Paul continued, his voice trembling with desperation. “I came to get you back. Please, Ruby… we can start over. We can forget everything.”
I could see the sadness in his eyes, mixed with frustration and a hint of anger, but I refused to let myself feel anything for him..
He had looked remorseful, yes–his body was thinner, his appearance messier, but that was no longer my concern.
“Forget everything?” I scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping me. “You cheated on me. You played me for a fool. And now you think we can just start over like nothing happened?”

He took a step closer, his eyes pleading, but I stood firm. When he reached out and grabbed my wrist, something inside me snapped. I yanked my hand back, glaring at him.
“Don’t touch me,” I hissed.
Suddenly, a few of the staff who had been working nearby noticed the tension and started to approach, concerned. “Is everything okay here, Ms. Sinclair?” one of them asked, his eyes darting between me and Paul.
Paul’s frustration was clearly bubbling to the surface. “Stay out of this!” he snapped at them.
I raised a hand, signaling for my team to stay calm. “It’s fine,” I said, my voice. steady, though inside I was fuming. “Paul is leaving.”
But Paul didn’t back down. “No, I’m not leaving until we talk about this,” he insisted, his voice growing louder. “You
